About the home

Casa Lory A is a large 180-square-meter (about 1,940 square feet) apartment which sleeps up to eight. It has a lovely, well-kept, private garden from which you will enjoy very nice views of the surrounding mountains as well as a partial view of the lake. It is located in the small hamlet of San Giovanni, roughly a mile from the center of Bellagio.

Inside the house you will have a double bedroom, two twin bedrooms, two bathrooms, a spacious living-room with a fireplace and a divan bed that sleeps two guests, and a large and well-equipped kitchen.

Casa Lory A takes up the entire ground floor of the building. The apartment is large and luminous, and all the room have glass doors overlooking the garden. The style is modern yet traditional, with floors tiled with wood and terracotta tiles that are at the same time practical and elegant.

From the entrance door you will enter the living room, which is equipped with two sofas, one of which opens up into a bed to sleep two guests. The living room has huge glass doors that overlook the extremely well-kept garden and make you feel on vacation the moment you step in. Here you will find a fireplace, as well as a satellite television. The living room is the only room of the house that is equipped with an air conditioning unit.

From the living room you will be able to enter a short corridor that gives access to the bedroom with a double bed and to one of the two bathrooms, equipped with bath tub and shower.

Again from the living room, walking across an intermediate sitting room, you will reach the large and well equipped kitchen. The kitchen has a table with chairs, a refrigerator with freezer, a four-burner cooker, oven, dishwasher and small appliances, including an American-style coffee-maker and a kettle. Strategically located across the garden, you will find a barbecue.

A corridor will take you from this part of the house to the two other twin bedrooms and to the second bathroom, which has a shower. Along this corridor you will also find a small service area where the washing machine is installed.

Further details outdoors:
The large garden of Casa Lory A is arranged on three sides of the building, and it is equipped with tables, chairs and a large umbrella, as well as with the barbecue. This garden is reserved for your own use, and it is not shared with the guests of the other apartments (who share a separate garden area). From the garden you will have a view of the mountains that surround the area and, partly, of the lake, which can be briefly seen in the background, behind the trees.

While staying at Casa Lory you will be in tranquil location, which is an excellent base for day trips throughout the area. You will enjoy the feeling of living amongst the locals and being part of the community.

You will be approximately 90 minutes from Lugano, Bergamo and Milan, and roughly 30 minutes from Como and Lecco. The popular attraction of Villa Carlotta, in Tremezzo, will be an easy trip by ferry across the lake, and you will be able to walk to the botanic gardens of Villa Melzi.

In the area you will find a wide range of tourist services: fitness center, squash facilities, and mountain bike rentals, a sports club with swimming pool, tennis court, sauna, and gym. Water skiing is also available, and there is an 18-hole golf course 30 minutes away. From Chevrio (a 15-minute drive) you will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Como. Several cafes and restaurants, as well as shops, are available in the center of Bellagio (a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk).

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area region

Lake Como, also known as Lake Lario, is the deepest lake of Europe, with a depth of 410 meters (1345 feet), as well as the third biggest Italian lake (146 km2, 56 square miles).

This area, thanks to its mild and humid climate, favours the lushness of an abundant Mediterranean flora: cypress trees, laurel trees, camellias, azaleas, rhododendrons, magnolias, and palm trees.

Inhabited since prehistoric time, this "piece of heaven" is an oasis of peace, where you can relax, enjoy hikes, water sports, taste the excellent local cuisine while you're staring at the majestic mountains diving into the lake.

This wonderful landscape and the surrounding valleys inspired many Italian artists and scientists, such as Alessandro Manzoni, Virgilio, Alessandro Volta...

The Romans were the first to realise the importance of the waterway of Lake Como that they navigated in their biremes transporting legionaries and goods towards the alpine passes in the direction of central Europe.

It was only in 1826 however, the year of launching the "Lario" steamboat that the first regular navigation service was started up for the public. Today, the jumbo-hydrofoils seating 200, and the large motor launches take off on their frequent crossings from the wharf of Piazza Cavour, stopping off in all the main centres of the lake and reaching as far as Colico, 70 kilometres away to the north. The launches offer splendid cruises from April to September with lunch on board, and journeys to satisfy even the most seasoned travelers.

The Bellagio area

There are few places as romantic as Lake Como, and even fewer lakeshore town as charming as Bellagio. "La perla del Lario" (the Pearl of Lake Lario, better known as Lake Como), as Bellagio is often called, is a perfect destination for a resting vacation and to admire one of the lake's most enchanting panoramas.

Bellagio is situated in a privileged position on Lake Como, on the tip of the promontory which separates the lake into two branches, forming the Como branch westwards and the Lecco branch eastwards.

The most ancient part of Bellagio occupies that area at the end of the promontory and is known as 'the Borgo'. It is a picturesque combination of stairways lined with colourful shops with the finest quality merchandise and excellent restaurants. Numerous little characteristic suburbs are scattered both along the lake and the hilly slopes above the Borgo.

Bellagio is a strategic starting point for seeing the entire lake. Thanks to public transportation, including boats, ferry or hydrofoil, from Bellagio you will possibly visit the most romantic parts of Lake Como, with its towns and unique historic villas with magnificent gardens.
