The Lombardy region
Bellagio is the Pearl of Lake Como, in Lombardy, known for its several business in Northern Italy, very close to Milan.
Lombardy is specially known for business, even though its territory is different and interesting: starting from the North, close to Switzerland, beautiful mountains can be visited in winter (skiing area in Valtellina and, beyond, Livigno) and in summertime as well (Stelvio Pass); in the central part the Lakes District (Lago di Como, Lago Maggiore (the Lombardy part), Lago di Lugano(the Italian Side). The South is of land,, partially with rice growings.
A visit to Milan is suggested(one hour car approx. from Bellagio); apart from Fashion, that is undoubtedly a must; a walk through downtown can be easily made, for example from Piazza del Duomo you can see the Basilica and the Palazzo Reale at its side; you can proceed walking through the Corso Magenta to reach the Santa Maria delle Grazie (built 1492-1493 by Bramante on behalf of Ludovico il Moro).
Do not miss "the Last Supper" by Leonardo in the Cenacolo of Santa Maria delle Grazie Church; you have to book in advance!
From Corso Vittorio Emanuele you can proceed walking to Piazza della Scala with its famous Theatre and also reach Brera Site through Via Verdi.
In Bellagio, what to see: first of all you should wander about downtown, looking at the environment (lake views, the Promontory leaning to the lake (the Promontory is the feature of Bellagio), elegant buildings and hotels, churches, visiting the Punta Spartivento, the small harbour of Pescallo, Loppia hamlet; On the way to Regatola, you see the Villa Giulia, beautiful Villa built in late 1700 on the Lecco arm of the lake and lived by Leopoldo King of Belgium; through the wide field (just pedestrian) in front of it, you can arrive to the Como Arm of Lake.
You take the boat in the village and visit the central lake and the other side; Villa Carlotta, Villa del Balbianello, Isola Comacina. ecc.; a visit to Como, a nice medieval city very rich in monuments, is suggested.
