The Limousin / Auvergne / Haute-Vienne region
The Limousin or french "lake district" is a beautiful area to visit, full of winding deserted lanes, lakes around every corner and a lush green landscape of trees & woodlands. Nestled between the Loire & the Dodogne it is relatively undiscovered. The temperate climate brings 30 plus degrees in the summer months, clear blue skies and just a buzzard calling.
The area is renowned for its beautiful lakes, quiet villages, excellent cuisine, woodland trails and numerous chateaux, which can be found along the Richard the Lionheart route. It is, therefore, ideal for anyone who enjoys walking, fishing, bird watching, water sports, riding and cycling. Many of the lakes have man made beaches and offer truly safe swimming as no motorboats are allowed. There are a wide variety of attractions close by, including animal parks, museums, theme parks, historical sites, farmers markets - all are contained in a guide located in your gite.
Bellac / Saint Barbant area
Saint Barbant is a small hamlet, located in a peaceful farming area, close to Bussiere Poitevine and Bellac. Markets are held locally every week, as well as fetes throughout the summer season. Local shops, bar and amenities can be found in Bussiere Poitevine. Limoges is world famous for porcelain and with its beautiful timber framed houses in the ancient cathedral quarter. Many historic WW11 sites can be visited including the “village of the martyrs” at Oradour sur Glane. Seven of the most beautiful villages in France can be found in this region, with Mortemart close by and Collonges la Rouge to the south. Pompadour and its imposing castle, has a national stud farm for Anglo-Arab horses. Futuroscope (near Poitiers), a theme park dedicated to cinema, is excellent for all the family

Guestbook
October 2005 - The Potter Family - York
What a truly fantastic holiday! The gite is probably one of the best equipped we have ever stayed in; the surrounding area is beautiful with some gorgeous views and Dave & Caroline must be the most hospitable hosts ever! (They can’t do enough for you!)
October 2005 - The Goulding Family
What a lovely place to come to for our first visit to France. Great people & lovely places, and fantastic views and country way of life. Plenty of places to see and do things, it’s a pity we were only here for a week, next time we’ll make our stay a little bit longer.
February 2006 - January 2007 - Paul & Jan Atkinson
We came for five months and stayed for eleven! Excellent stabling and grazing facilities for our four horses, (a fifth being born whilst we were here) and the Gite is well equipped and comfortable for a lengthy stay. This is a beautiful area with plenty to do and see at any time of the year.
March 2007 Ron & Brenda Middleton, Geoff & Linda Petterson
This was our first visit to France and won’t be our last. The Gite was excellent and contained everything you could ever need, it was like home from home. Many thanks to Caroline & Dave who were fabulous and gave us lots of help and information during our stay.
March 2007, Derek & Tracy Jones & family
Thank you very much Caroline & Dave for a lovely stay in your gite. We have just spent 3 weeks here and have had everything we needed. We have stayed in many gites in France, the vast majority of which have not come close to this. The info is excellent and the goodie box on arrival is an excellent idea.
Justyn, Amanda & Dominic Laurens April 2007
Arrived in glorious sunshine & a warm welcome from Caroline & Dave. The gite is very well equipped and the best we’ve stayed in. The area has beautiful scenary and plenty to do. Our son Dominic (5) enjoyed the farm, the gite & especially the garden, The gite and farm have such a relaxing feeling, we extended our stay for an extra few days.
