This very comfortable 3/4 bedroom, self catering two storey gite/apartment is in part of our recently renovated "relais de poste", and is in a wonderful and charming area of France, and comfortably sleeps up to 6 adults,(max 8), with a large kitchen-diner with all equipment supplied for self catering. You have your own separatefront door giving access to the apartment.
We give a discount for 14 nights . We are WIFI so you can keep in touch with home, etc. Large sitting room with UK sat. TV ,Video. Hairdryer and Iron etc supplied, so no need to pack them. All bed linen and towels also provided. We also have a room where you can excercise with steppers, or you can play darts
The 3 bedrooms are large, light and airy, and the whole property is nicely decorated.We are non- smoking in the house (ok in the garden or balcony).
So, from Easter to the end of October we have an apartment on two floors with three good sized bedrooms,(20 sq.m double with door to balcony; 13 sq.m double and 12 sq.m twin) and a bed sitting room( 30 sq.m.) with satelite tv etc . all up on the first floor. All these rooms have the old wooden floors and are tastefully decorated with good and comfortable bedding all supplied, including towels etc. too., so you have no need to pack these items.
On the ground floor we have a shower room and toilet and also a good sized kitchen (15 sq.m) again fully equipped for your holiday.
Our house is near the centre of Belesta and has a pretty garden which is rather unusual for a French village house. We want to make sure that your short or long stay is as peaceful and restful as possible, and it usually possible to sit outside until late in the evening. Ideally situated for all activities including visiting all the historial sites in this wonderful area for painting, walking, biking, cycling, househunting etc and discovering this lovely unspoilt area, no matter what time of the year, as the scenery is ever changing .
Belesta has a chemist, bank, post office with cash machine, traditional butchers, bakers, greengrocers and a supermarket so you dont have to travel far to get what you need. We have two bars with their restaurants and within 10-20 mins there are many more lovely restaurants you can try, even one by a lake in the openair in the summer. Or you can simply relax with a good DVD in the sitting room.
There are many castles and mountains, forests, lakes (with little beaches) and lots of historical interest as we are on the "Route of the Cathares" with the Chateau ofMontsegur just 20 minutes away. Andorra and Spain are approximated one and a half to two hours away. The wonderful scenery changes with the seasons. We are situated on the border of Ariege and the Aude so we are well situated for house hunting too.
We are also central for visiting the many and varied attractions this area has to offer, for example, the butterfly farm, the prehistoric park, the longest underground river trip in Europe, carting, canoeing, kyaking, and there are loads more to chose from. We also have puzzles and games for children (or grownups) including boules and darts, so you see we have everything to offer you here for a wonderful holiday.
Small or large parties can be accommodated as we have many spacious rooms, as the other side of our house is a chambre d'hotes, so just let us know your details and we will help you all we can.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Ariege region

You have everything you want here, sunshine, glorious scenery, lavender fields, lots of historic interest, (the Route of the Cathares, Montsegur). We are very centrally situated. Carcasonne Airport is just 45 mins away, and Toulouse and Perpignan Airports both 1 hr 30 mins away. Should you wish to drive , it takes approx 10 hours from the Dover ferry crossing and is a very straightforward route.

If you want to get away from it all, the Midi-Pyréenés is the largest official region of France, offering stunning vistas, good summer weather and a unique landscape. We have excellent skiing for the family at nearby Monts d'Olmes(30 mins away) and the prices are much more reasonable than other ski resorts. Ax le Therme is about 1 hour away too.The ski resorts on the Spanish border offer an economical alternative to those of the French Alps, and this area is dotted with thermal resorts.

We are very fortunate, as we have skiing from December to March usually, and the spring and autumn are lovely times here and the summer is excellent as you have brilliant weather, but not the humidity as we are close to the mountains.

Belesta area

There are just so many places to see in this region; here are just a few ideas:
We have Fontestorbes Intermittent fountain, just outside Belesta (in the summer it stops every 30 minutes or so and you can walk into the caves). The Chateau of Montsegur is 20 mins away, and we are on the Route of the Cathars and all the history that goes with it. Rennes le Chateau not far away too. If you love history you will love this area. Queribus, Peyrepertus, Roxifixade, are on the Route of the Cathars, Foix Castle is a wonderful site to see and Carcassonne has so many places of interest you will not be disappointed.
At Mirepoix:there is a very busy farmers market on a Monday in this medieval city which is a "must" for all visitors to this area. Mirepoix dates back to the 12century and ther are still the wooden "covers" with magnificent carvings to see.
There is a subterranian trip, the longest open to the public in Europe, a Musee des Dinosaures, a Musee Contemporain de la Chapellerie (Hats) all within easy reach (along with loads of other things to do).
There are lovely lakes to visit and mountains to climb. This area is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, motor cyclists, families of all ages .
End of October Belesta hosts a Pumpkin Festival, and you wont believe what you can make out of a Pumpkin! There is also a farmers market during the three day festival . This is followed on November 1st by a huge Vide Grenier like a loft sale)in the streets with 100 plus stalls. and lots of things to buy at very reasonable prices. This should not be missed.
Only a short distance away are Spain and also Andorra with its duty free shopping! Another lovely place to visit is Ax les Thermes on the way to Andorra, where there is a natural spa too.
There are plenty of things to do in the area for all ages. We have nearby a Prehistoric Park, Castles and Chateaux too many to mention. There are festivals and fetes and markets a lot of the time and a "vide grenier" is not to be missed ( bit like a car boot, but without the car!)This is a lovely old fashioned rural area and you will have a relaxing holiday with no rushing around and very little traffic to contend with generally. Life is a much slower pace and its great to unwind, but there are also lots of things to do in the area, if you want to. So its up to you.

How to get there

Ryanair fly to Carcassonne Airport which is just 45 minutes by car.

Flights also available into Toulouse and Perpignan both about 1 1/2 hrs away. Which ever route you take, the scenery is wonderful.

Car hire is available at the airport and given the drive to the property - is highly recommended.

From Carcassone airport; turn right out of the airport D119 to Mirepoix; then take the D625 to Lavelanet,and then the D117 to Belesta and we are just on your right as you get into the town.

Really good value and very well priced, comfortable and well situated to discover this beautiful area of unspoilt France in the Midi Pyrenees.We have secure parking for motor cycles and bicycles . There are two bars in the village, a bakers, bank, chemist, post office and supermarket so you can easily get everything you need here.
First floor and all these rooms have original wooden floors:
One large pretty double bedroom, facing the garden. One bright bedroom with two comfortable single beds. Another large double bedroom , we also have an spacious "L" shaped sitting room which has satelite television, video and dvd. So there is plenty of room to relax in the evenings . We also have WIFI available so you can bring your laptop and keep up to date with those e mails!
On the ground floor we have a good sized kitchen with everything you would need including a welcome pack. There is also a good sized shower room with wash basin and a separate toilet.
There is your own front door and access to the garden.
It is a really comfortable bright and airy apartment with good sized rooms, ideal for friends or families who want to be together but have their own space. Sometimes it is nice to get away and relax a bit, but be near enough to keep an eye on the rest of the family. Large kitchen/diner microwave, cooker, washing machine, fridge, satelite tv etc and all linen and table ware supplied. Secure parking available if required. If you dont want to cook, we can do it for you, just let us know what you want and we will do our best to provide it for you.

Our old 18th century "relais de poste" is divided into two so we have the bed and breakfast accommodation on one side and the apartment on the other side and we live in the house as well, so we are always on hand to help if required.
Garden is private although shared with other residents of the chambres d'hotes.

Secured parking area for bikes, motorbikes, etc.
