About the home

Just 50 mins from Carcassonne airport,you can be sure of a warm welcome in our well established chambres d'hotes which is part of a large old 18th cent. Relais de Poste Just 15 minutes from Chateau de Montsegur and 25 minutes from Mirepoix, and on the famous Route of the Cathares. Good quality evening meals available, do let us know in advance please. ( also see 17479 self catering apartment)
All our bedrooms are comfortably furnished and are clean & spacious. We are WIFI so you can keep in touch with home or work . You can also be assured of a good breakfast. Excellent value and very comfortable bedrooms, ideal a group of friends, couples or families too. Our accommodation is flexible and can cater for 1,2,3 or 4 in our good sized rooms.
You will be amazed, every one speaks to you and this is a very safe and friendly village, just like days gone by.
Whether you are house hunting or climbing mountains, skiing, walking,motor cycling or visiting Cathar castles or Andorra or Spain we are ideally situated.
This area is a paradise for walkers, lovers of history,cyclists and motor bikers. We have garage parking for cycles and motor bikes.

There are many water activities within 30 mins or so, and excellent skiing in the winter too.There are caves and dinasaur parks,boat trips, kyaking & karting all within 30-50 minutes.
So we have lots to see and do here in SW France and we will look after you very well, and you have the advantage of glorious weather too.
So if you want a peaceful break, or a walking holiday, skiing or an historical trip to Cathar castles, in a comfortable bed and breakfast, this is the place to come!

In our friendly bed and breakfast,with evening meals available as well, we have four delightful, bright and nicely furnished, very comfortable rooms and We have a large and pretty garden where you can relax with your evening drinks after a long day exploring. Fantastic skiing 30 mins away at Monts D'Olmes
We are easily accessed with Ryanair( 2 flights a day) at Carcassonne (50 mins) & Perpignan Airports( 90 mins); and Toulouse Airport 90 mins, (Easyjet or British Airways).

On our first floor we have the following: a large and bright (15m2) double bedroom with an original wooden floor facing the garden; and another very comfortable , nicely decorated bedroom (20m2)which has a double bed and a double bed settee as well,if required,so this is ideal for a family. Both these rooms have French TV. On this floor there is a Shower room, with w/c and wash basin and bidet.
On the second floor there is a really big and comfortable room (25m2)which has three single beds and another original wooden floor; and a second big bedroom (20m2) with 3 singles beds in it and this room has an old brick floor,English and French TV. Again on this floor is a shower room with w/c. and basin.
We also have a cot for a baby up to 3 years old. Just let us know and we will arrange everything in time for your arrival.
All the rooms have good of good size and quality bedding and are nicely decorated and are clean bright and airy.

We also have a large self-catering, two storey apartment in the house next door for 2-6 people,property number 17479.Equipped kitchen,dish washer, washing machine etc. So quite large parties can be accommodated for special events or weddings.All bedding and towels are supplied for you in the gite/appartment as well.
So you will see that we have very versatile accommodation and whatever you want we can usually provide it.

There are tea making facilities and hairdryers in all rooms in the bed and breakfast and towels and all linen are provided.
Secure parking available if required.

In our large garden with 4 lawns and a terrace area, we have tables, chairs, and sunbeds and umbrellas etc. all that you require for that relaxing summer holiday glass of wine or two in the evening. The garden can be used by both bed and breakfast and apartment guests and of couse ourselves.
We have a selection of board games, darts, even croquet if you prefer! etc. after a busy day exploring.We have outside a little games room with step machine and a step bike and another exercise bike and some little weights, and so you wont miss the gym! Dartboard in there too!

The Midi-Pyrenees / Ariege region

Our nearest Airport is Carcassonne,unfortunately not shown on the map above, just 50 mins away and served by Ryanair with flights all year (and 2 a day in the summer-so lots of reduced prices usually available)Special offer:. Book 7 nights and get one night free and an evening meal as well.This lovely unspoilt area has been described as "a walkers' paradise" and that is so very true, but whether walking, climbing a mountain, sitting by a lake, dipping your toes into the water, you will love this quiet,rural area and its lovely varied scenery.We even have the International Karting Centre about 15 mins away. Famous chateaux and grottos are all within easy reach and so much to see and do you wont fit it all in.
Why not have Christmas and or New Year in the pretty little village of Belesta, which nestles at the foothills of the magnificent Pyrenees, close to Ski Station Monts d'Olmes for really reasonably priced skiing in late December to March.
Then of course you have everything coming to life with the approach of spring, and the fields which look like velvet and the spring lambs etc. Of course summer is normally gorgeous weather, and lovely fresh air too, everyone sleeps very well here as the mountain air is so clean, and of course you have wonderful fields of sunflowers just like the Picasso painting. In Autumn the wonderful colours of the trees as they change and the weather can be still very good right up to Christmas and beyond. The days are shorter but you could have sunshine or showers. This is why this region is go beautiful and green, because we have the seasons. We get very little snow here in Belesta as we are at only 500 m and our roads stay virtually clear. So whatever time of year and whatever you are wanting from a holiday , then you can usually find it within 30 mins or so by car from here.

If you want to get away from it all, the Midi-Pyréenés is the largest official region of France, offering stunning vistas, good summer weather and a unique and very varied landscape.Fontestorbes Intermittent fountain is just one of six in the world , and during the summer months, the flow stops every 30 mins or so and you are able to walk through into the caves beyond,so it is a good attraction in the village. Hopefully next year there will also be a park area for bikes and climbing etc, just next to the Fountain just two minutes from here.The ski resorts at Mont D'Olmes offers an economical alternative to those of the French Alps, and this area is dotted with thermal resorts.
Monts D'Olmes is a family ski resort just 30-40 mins away, with a bus service from a nearby village.

We have a massive "vide grenier" (loft sale) here on 1st November so if you love looking at lots of bargains there are usually more than 200 stalls to see. This is held during the Pumpkin Festival, 29-30-31 October and 1st November. There is always some thing going on and lots to see and do then.

You have everything you want here, sunshine, glorious scenery, lavender fields,sunflower fields, lots of historic interest, (the Route of the Cathares, the famous Chateau of Montsegur). Rennes le Chateau, Lagarde, Leran, Montbel,Foix, Mirepoix, Ax le Thermes, Luzenac, even the Millau bridge is just three hours away, so you can see we are very centrally situated, and Carcasonne Airport is just 45 mins away, and Toulouse and Perpignan Airports both 1 hr 30 mins away, so you have an excellent choice of cheap flights to take advantage of.

Should you wish to drive , it takes approx 10 hours from the Dover ferry crossing and is a very straightforward route.

The Belesta area

In Belesta, we have most of the things you would need,restaurants/bars, the bank, post office, cash machine,chemist, butcher, baker, supermarket etc are all within minutes of our chambres d'hotes.
The International Karting Centre is just 15 minutes away by car .
We have very reasonably priced skiing is at the Ski Station at Monts d'Olmes, about 1/3 of the price of other ski resorts-so it is ideal for families. There is a daily bus service from the next town to the ski station.

In the summer a relaxing trip to Lac Montbel or Puivert Lake is a must - very quiet and natural areas.
You can climb mountains, visit gorges or chateaux, take a trip in a microlite or go karting, rafting in fact most things are within easy reach for your holiday. It is such a beautiful area with mountains and forests and little villages to explore. The wonderful scenery changes with the seasons so we are open for visitors all the year round. We are ideally situated for walking, skiing, fishing ,house hunting or just having a well earned rest! There is so much to see, and you will enjoy the break from the pressures of work and and home.

Just 15 minutes from the International Karting Circuit, also on the famous Route of the Cathars, we are centrally situated to explore this lovely area. We have Fonstestorbes Intermittent Fountain, one of about only 6 in the world, which,during the summer months, stops about every 30 minutes and you are able to walk actually inside the caves, so this a a great attraction just outside Belesta village.

There are just so many places to see in this region; here are just a few ideas:
Monts d'Olmes is just about 40 mins away and has good facilities for families wishing to ski.

Mirepoix: there is a very busy market on a Monday in this medieval city . Mirepoix dates back to the 12c and there are still the wooden "covers" with magnificent carvings to see.

There are lots to do in the area, for all age groups. from the Prehistoric Park to canoeing, from train trips to underground river trips. There are so many chateaux and castles, you will be spoilt for choice. There are many markets to visit and festivals and brocantes to see and you must not miss the "vide greniers" the equivalent of a carboot sale all of which are in easy reach of this central location.
We are on the historic Route of the Cathars.The Castle at Montsegur should not to be missed and there are lovely lakes to visit and mountains to climb. This area is a paradise for walkers, cyclists, motor cyclists, families of all ages , and everyone who wants to "get away from it all" and just relax with a wander around and a glass (or 2 )of wine .

Only a short distance away(90mins) are Spain or Andorra with its famous duty free shopping! Another lovely place to visit is Ax les Thermes on the way to Andorra, where there is a natural spa too. You are only 20 mins away from beautiful Lac Montbel with its little beach, and only 90 mins away from beautiful Canet Plage on the coast. So you can see, whatever you want to do, it is here waiting for you.

Belesta village has a bank, a post office with cash machine, butchers, bakers, chemist, greengrocers, and a supermarket and also a garage, all of which are essential to make that holiday easy rather than a chore. There are twoo bars, most important, and both have small restaurants. Within 10-15 mins in the car there are a good choice of local restaurants to suit every taste, either open air by a lake (which is great in the summer) or a traditional restaurant and prices are still very reasonable in this area, again most important when you have a family.

Ryanair fly to Carcassonne Airport which is just 45 minutes by car.
Flights also available into Toulouse and Perpignan both about 90 mins away. Which ever route you take, the scenery is wonderful.
From Carcassone airport; turn right out of the airport D119 to Mirepoix; then take the D625 to Lavelanet,and then the D117 to Belesta and we are just on your right as you get into the town.

“Comfortable B&B in a small pleasant village” We thoroughly enjoyed a week 's stay here. Breakfasts were plentiful and optional evening meals were very good. We had the use of local maps and guide books to help us plan our walks.
