Llangelida
About the home
With views into the bay of Aigua Blava from the garden to the north at the front of the house and from the pool terrace to the south this is a very special location. From the driveway the villa is entered via a courtyard with its fountain and very pleasant and sheltered bbq area.
The villa is on two levels with an entrance hall on the upper level leading to an open plan sitting/dining room which leads to a conservatory that runs the full length of the house overlooking the pool terrace. The kitchen is spacious and very well equipped and has a separate laundry/utility room. Also on this level there is a guest wc. The master bedroom is also on the same level opening onto a 'juliet' balcony overlooking the courtyard. This bedroom is en suite and has a large four poster bed. On the lower floor there are three double bedrooms all en suite, with french doors opening onto the pool terrace.
The house is particularly child friendly and there is a gate from the courtyard preventing access from the pool area keeping little ones safe. The courtyard is totally enclosed so a great place to play safely.
The pool area is far more spacious than it appears in the photographs. This villa is virtually impossible to photograph to its best advantage as it appears far smaller than it really is. The pool terrace easily accommodates 8 full size sun loungers and a table and chairs. The bbq area off the courtyard is sheltered and seats up to 12 people.

The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region
The villa is located just south of Begur on the hill between Aigua Blava Bay and Tamariu two of the loveliest beaches on the Spanish Mediterranean coastline. Aigua Blava is the jewel in the crown of the Cost Brava and the reason is clear when you see the beautiful bay with its green blue waters and soft golden sands. It is a very child friendly beach with a gentle slope into the water. There are two restaurants on the beach serving good food at reasonable prices. Aigua Blava, Begur is just about 75 mins south of the French border and about 95 mins from Barcelona City centre making it an ideal base to allow full exploration of the Costa Brava area with both the beach areas and also the medieval towns and villages to be found inland. To the north are the beaches of Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda, Sa Riera and Pals so you will be spoilt for choice if you are tempted to leave the poolside for a swim! Not a beach person? don't worry the area has lots to offer history, art, music, dance, walking etc
The Begur / Aigua Blava area
The picturesque town of Begur nestles in the hillside under its 16th Century fortified castle, many of the narrow cobbled streets at its base are now pedestrianised and the hub of the town itself.
With wonderful views of the sea it is set 700ft above sea level and close to many different sandy coves and bays. The old centre of the town is the main entertainment area with numerous bars and restaurants and a couple of nightclubs. During the high season there is a wealth of entertainment aimed at all ages from puppet shows, face painting etc., for the children to traditional Catalonian 'sardanas' dancing in the square during the evenings.
In fact the church square plays a major role in all activities during the summer and is the location of artisan markets, art fairs, classical concerts, the weekly market each Wednesday, the open air disco (for all ages from 8 to 80!!) In fact the place to meet friends have fun or simply watch the world go by.
The fact that the local beaches are all relatively small and the land hilly has helped keep the area relatively unspoilt. There are no high rise developments in this area, all development is low key and mostly privately owned. Because the area is unsuitable for large tour operators, there is none of the commercial mass development that is prevalent in other locations along the Costa Brava.
The Local Authority has an active 'Green' environmentally friendly policy, with strict planning regulations maintaining the overall charm of the area. The pine forests, which give the beaches their unique backdrop, are protected and together with the naturally rugged coastline make these some of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. Unlike other parts of Spain these distinctive beaches along this part of the Costa Brava are stunning without the crowds, Within the immediate area of Begur town there are some wonderful coastal villages all of which were at one time fishing villages.

We visited Begur last September and I can only say it was a wonderful holiday in the most beautiful place. Begur is a small village/town on a hill surrounded by lovely little beaches. Villa llangelida was at the top of the hill overlooking Tamariu on one side and Aigua Blava on the other. We walked to both bays from the villa and loved both & thought Tamariu is more commercial than aigua Blava with more restaurants etc., The house itself was just amazing. In the photos it looks small and the area around the pool looks small but when you are there it is really big and very comfortable with enough sun loungers for everybody. We really liked the bar-b-que area and decided to eat at home much of the time because it was so great. The children spent 90% of their time in the pool and with the solar heating it was great for the little ones. The house is very child friendly with secure gates on the stairs and down to the pool. There is also Wifi which made it easy for us to keep in contact and for my husband to get some work done. The en suite bathrooms were a big plus for us with two couples, two teenagers and two small children 2 &4. No queues for the bathroom! We found the house exceptionally clean and everything was in good condition and working well. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The beds were very comfortable and by leaving windows open to the front and back of the house we always had a cool sea breeze. There are railings on the windows so we felt very safe leaving all the windows open day and night. The service provided by the management company was excellent and we had no trouble finding the house with directions supplied. David was there to meet us, show us around and give us some ideas for our holiday which were all very helpful. We couldn't get the TV to work shortly after he left so he came right back to show us what buttons to push! (ever feel dumb?) that was no trouble to him and he was just charming about being dragged back again. David recommended a number of good restaurants in the area every single one we tried was fabulous from the shack on the dirt track for bar-b-que chicken to Michelin star Casa mar. if you enjoy good food pick his brains he knows all the best places. We would highly recommend this villa, this management company and the area as a whole for a wonderful holiday and hopefully will be back again this year.
