About the home

Beautiful 18th Century townhouse in the historic centre of Begur, the jewel of the Costa Brava. It is in a very quiet street 3 minutes easy stroll from the main square, cafes and restaurants. Easy access by car, foot or bus to the Costa Brava's finest beaches and facilities. The open air town pool, tennis courts and cafe only 10 minutes away.

The house was built in 1751 and has been sensitively restored. It has a garage (private parking is essential in Begur in the summer) and is on 3 floors with entrance into a large hallway, with doors to the garage, utility, pantry and lovely and private walled garden.

The 1st floor consists of a new, modern, kitchen, large living dining room, hallway to two bedrooms (one double, one twin or double), bathroom with shower, lavatory and bidet. The top floor has a bedroom (twin or double) with ensuite bathroom with shower/bath, lavatory and bidet, plus sitting room with panoramic views across to the Pyrennees. Satellite HDTV with British Freeview and Spanish digital channels. Step out onto the sun terrace for more views of the town, castle, and countryside, and relax on one of the loungers.

The walled garden is quiet and green, with a fantastic bbq and outside covered dining area with large table and chairs, 3 large umbrellas, and loungers. The trees, shrubs and herbs make this a quiet and cool retreat which is safe for children to play.

The house is comfortable year round and is a great place to relax and unwind or use as a base to explore Catalonia. Suitable for families, a group of friends, or couples looking for a romantic break.

The Costa Brava/Catalonia/Barcelona region

The Costa Brava is one of the world's top destinations in 2012, according to the National Geographic. The amazing coastline offers everything from long sandy beaches to tiny coves, with pine trees along the beautiful coastal walks. It has some of the cleanest waters in Europe.

Inland you can explore medieval villages and towns, the Emporda, historic centres like Girona, Besalu and Barcelona. Together with the world famous land of Dali - Cadaques, Figueres and Pubol, the wonderful gastronomy and stunning scenery, Catalonia has something for everybody.

The mild climate and hot sunny summers attracts visitors throughout the year.

The Begur area

Begur, an upmarket little town, sits on a volcanic plug topped by a crumbling medieval castle that has 360 degree views over the sea, town and Pyrennees. The narrow streets of Begur have many delightful neo classical mansions built by local merchants returning from Cuba in the 19th century. This was an area targeted by pirates, and there is a series of medieval look out towers throughout the town.

The town centre has been well preserved and restored and has many and varied restaurants to suit all tastes, cafes, shops and facilities. There is a weekly market, regular events rich in local colour such as sardana dancing and havanere singing, In August you can run with the fireworks - the corre focs - in neighbouring towns which is an unmissable experience.

The town is close to several fabulous beaches which can be accessed either by foot, local buses or by car. There are restaurants at most of the beaches and many offer water sports. If you don't feel like the beach, the town open air swimming pool has grassy surrounds, tennis courts and cafe/restaurant. There are many attractions from the water funpark in Playa to walking the wonderful coastal walk.

“Excellent family accommodation in centre of Begur.” A wonderful town house in the Begur. Excellent facilities for both winter and summer holidays, open log fire for cold evenings in February. Good enclosed garden with outdoor cooking as well as roof terrace which catches the winter sun. Very comfortable beds and plenty of living areas for larger groups. One of the best properties we have stayed in.
