A semi-detached period cottage, Grade II listed and dating from 1504, Starre Cottage is one of the oldest and most interesting cottages in Beer. The Cottage forms the main entrance to Starre House, which was the manor house of Beer when Henry VIII gave the Manor to Catherine Parr as part of his marriage dowry. Catherine is buried at Sudeley Castle Gloucestershire. Her tomb, like Starre Cottage, is built entirely of Beer Stone. John Starre and his wife Dorothy were other owners. A plaque in St. Michael's church in Beer testifies that they died in the plague of 1646. The present owners have lovingly restored the cottage as near as possible to its original state. They have written a short history of the manor house and this is available for guests to read.

A charming character cottage, much loved and regularly used by its Owners. Starre Cottage provides quality holiday accommodation in the picturesque fishing village of Beer. Much attention to detail has been given to the property, where guests will be treated to an abundance of retained character including exposed Beer stone, ceiling beams, window seating, little alcoves here and there. This is a cottage certain to appeal to guests who appreciate period buildings but who also seek quality and comfort. Without a doubt, one of our most charming in Beer.
