Very spacious comfortably furnished traditional cottage in the mountain pass hamlet of Nant Gwynant, 3 ½ miles north of Beddgelert, in the heart of Snowdonia National Park. Just 2 ½ miles from Snowdon summit as the crow flies, the cottage enjoys dramatic views of Lliwedd and the Snowdon range.

Originally 3 separate miner's cottages from about 1860, Glyn Awel is well-equipped throughout and includes a large farmhouse style dining kitchen with wood burning stove, twin electric oven and ceramic hob; a chic utility with fridge freezer microwave and dishwasher; a reading room with feature slate floor, and a large comfortable lounge with open fire, TV, media centre with large DVD selection. Wireless broadband, computer (useful for online grocery orders), parking for up to 4 cars.

The large rear garden on several levels is the perfect place to enjoy a barbecue with tremendous views (BBQ and garden furniture are provided); however, steep terraces mean that young children will need to be supervised outside. Clear skies and lack of light pollution make this a great place for night vistas, too.

Plenty of walking at all levels straight from the cottage door. The Watkin path up Snowdon starts 1/4 mile away; and the Snowdon Sherpa bus network runs past the cottage making many round trips possible. Other attractions such as Porthmadog, Black Rock Sands Beach, Portmeirion, Llanberis, Criccieth Castle and Betws-y-Coed are all about 30 minutes scenic drive away by car.

Licensed cafe 1/4 mile way, otherwise the nearby charming village of Beddgelert offers local shops and a range of pubs and restaurants and access to the Welsh Highland Railway.

The North Wales region

North Wales has been a firm favourite with holidaymakers from all over the UK and Europe for years. It has everything to offer: fine sandy beaches, historic castles and monuments, magnificent mountain and coastal scenery, and an altogether different culture and pace of life. Warmed by the waters of the gulf stream, the climate is generally better than most of the UK, and by picking the lee side of the mountains, even the effects of occasionally poor weather can be reduced.

The star attraction in North Wales has to be Snowdonia National Park. Although the mountains aren't much more than 1000 metres high, the walking is first rate, with more than enough routes to satisfy any level of hiker. Climbers, cyclists, canoeists and other outdoor enthusiasts are similarly well catered for.

But it's not all about the mountains; there are plenty of other things to do, places to go and sights to see. Whether you're after some time on the beach, intrigued by mediaeval castles, fascinated by the industrial heritage, or just plain curious to hear what a Welsh Male Voice Choir singing in a slate mine sounds like, you're sure to find a wealth of memorable experiences on your holiday.

Beddgelert

Beddgelert is a charming conservation village in the heart of the National Park. Frequently commended in Britain in Bloom and even Europe in Bloom competitions, the delightful village centre retains its traditional feel. Although deservedly popular with tourists visiting the bogus dog's grave, Beddgelert has not been spoiled by tourism the way some other villages have.

There's not that much to do here - visit a copper mine, walk the wild Fisherman's path down the Aberglasyn Gorge, admire the character cottages - but it's a great place to be. It nestles spectacularly in a small plain dominated by it's own mountain, Moel Hebog, and there are mountain and valley views in every direction. There's a good choice of pubs and restaurants, and just enough local facilities to be not worth going further afield. Situated on the confluence of two rivers, and now served by the scenic Welsh Highland Railway to Caernafon and Porthmadog, it's a great base from which to enjoy much of what North Wales has to offer.

"Exactly what we needed"

We travelled to Wales as a group of 6 on a (slightly sensible) stag weekend. We were pleasantly surprised with the size of Glyn Awel and it's facilities, although we only noticed the dishwasher on the last day!

We planned to BBQ on both nights, but only managed it once thanks to the weather, although it was gloriously sunny on the Saturday.

One the last morning, we ventured down the Llyn Gwynant, which is a very short walk down the road. The early morning mist made this quite the experience, as did the water, which was very cold!

The large dining table was perfect for our group of 6, but could easily fit 10-12 people and I'm considering coming back with my family soon.

"Perfect cottage for a family holiday"

We have just spent a wonderful bank holiday weekend at Glyn Awel, a truly special holiday cottage. Extremely spacious and beautifully furnished, with just about every convenience we could have needed. Glyn Awel is a perfect base from which to climb Snowdon, set off on slightly less strenuous walks, or simply to relax and enjoy the scenery. Suitable for all ages, we cannot think of a single negative to this place! We hope to return very soon and have no hesitation recommending this fabulous accommodation.

"Hidden gem"

I arranged for a group of us to stay at Glyn Awel for my boyfriends 30th birthday. There were eight of us in total but there was room for more, we stayed Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We were blown away with the cottage, the location was absolutely spectacular, right in the middle of Snowdonia. It was lovely having the river and lake across the road. We made use of this by going Kayaking on the lake one morning. We could not fault the cottage, it had everything you would ever need in a cottage. We loved the big kitchen (perfect for a party) and the log burners (make sure you find the one in the living room behind the gas fire). We definitely want to stay again, hopefully in the summer so we can make better use of the garden but its lovely and cosy for a winter break too.

"Space and comfort inside: woods, mountains, lakes and rivers outside - Glyn Awel's got it all."

Outstanding! We wanted a comfortable base in a beautiful location, with options to satisfy three generations ranging in age from five to sixty-something, and that is exactly what Glyn Awel gave us. The "wild woods" extending from the upper terrace garden kept the kids entranced, Llyn Gwynant provided scope for kayak adventures and the waterfalls a little way up the nearby Watkin path were a huge hit with the intrepid canyoners in mini wetsuits - all within easy walking distance of the front door.

Those with the shortest legs found the train gave the best access to Snowdon, but other rocks and mountains offered sport for the fully-grown. We were lucky with the weather, but when forced indoors by rain or nightfall had plenty of space and comfort to console us. The absence of mobile phone signal was regretted by some but actively celebrated by others.

Nant Gwynant is beautifully located, and Glyn Awel is well placed within it. I really have nothing negative to say about it.

"Great Family Vacation Base"

We thought Glyn Awel was wonderful; the whole family loved everything about it and can't wait to go back .The cottage was very clean ,welcoming and atmospheric [ the impressive grandfather clock was much admired and the huge kitchen table a great hit – perfect for playing games and enjoying a few glasses of wine etc. with the family ! ] and equipped with everything we needed . Glyn Awel is ideal for large family groups to share ; spacious enough to feel that you all have a bit of privacy. We will definitely be hiring your cottage again at the earliest opportunity !

"Great house, great location"

Two families, 10 in total, stayed at this lovely house, plenty of space for everyone and really enjoyed the large kitchen and table, the scene of several great evenings. The location is perfect, we climbed snowdon, with one of the paths starting just 1k from the house. Lots to do in the area. Would highly recommend.

"Awesome holiday"

As a seasoned adventurer to Wales at Easter time, I can thoroughly recommend this cottage, spacious, cosy, and well equipped, . Brilliant location with stunning scenery and walks right on the door step - literally, ideal for walkers and non-walkers alike, plenty to do in the area. Lovely to sit round a real fire either in the kitchen or living room after a day out. A real getaway from it all - would definitely book this cottage again.
