Henfro A quarryman's Cottage at the Foot of Snowdon

Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 3

Key Info
  • Great for children of all ages
  • Car not necessary
  • Pets welcome
  • Private garden

Henfro is a cute mid terraced cottage at the foot of Snowdon in Rhyd Ddu. This old quarryman’s cottage now provides a perfect getaway for holiday makers wanting to explore the wilds of Snowdonia. The cozy lounge has a lovely log burner set in the original stone inglenook fireplace. Tasteful fixtures and furniture create a sense of warm tranquility which is just what you want after a long walk up in the mountains.

The kitchen diner in contrast, is a more modern bright room with clean lines and sleek contemporary fittings. Attention to detail here is second to none. I certainly couldn’t find anything that didn’t conform to the black and red theme. Even the peddle bin! Large skylights and patio doors that open out onto the back garden ensures that the room is light and airy throughout the day. Breakfast here was a pleasure.

The back garden itself has a BBQ and a storage shed for bikes and walking or climbing gear. The river Gwyrfai as it flows past the foot of the garden creates a wonderful melodic boundary between the defined structure of the garden and the untamed nature of the fields beyond. The river does mean that children cannot be left unsupervised.

Two bedrooms upstairs. One Double room and one single. Again, all the fixtures and fittings are carefully chosen and return us to the cozy warm feel of the lounge. The bedrooms aren’t huge but they’re well laid out and there’s plenty of storage.

As with most of these quarryman’s cottages the bathroom is also on the ground floor. Not the modern way I know but when you’re on holiday this layout is fine. The bathroom itself is very nice and has a large shower cubicle, modern vanity units and spotlessly clean and crisp.

The North Wales region

Truly a walker’s paradise, keen ramblers need never step back into the car as miles and miles of footpaths are accessible right from your doorstep including the famous Rhyd Ddu Path leading to the summit of Snowdon. There’s also a local pub 200m down the road, so again there’s really no need to pick up those car keys during your stay.

And you don’t have to be a train fanatic to appreciate the narrow gauge steam locomotives that run up this valley. Pulling their load of enthusiastic holidaymakers through some of the most beautiful and rugged scenery in the UK.

All the other activities associated with North Wales are within easy reach including fishing, horse riding, mountain biking and rock climbing. Beddgelert, a picturesque and popular tourist village is 5 minutes to the south of the cottage while the larger town of Caernarfon is 15minutes to the north.

"Lovely property, we'll be back!"

My partner and I stayed at Henfro during the Easter Break. The property is in a perfect location. Everything was great for our break and we managed to enjoy some quality time at this wonderful property. Everything is new and it is really comfy. The owner was really nice and was always trying to make our stay even better. We loved our Welcome Pack!! There's a small river behind the garden and it was amazing to be able to be surrounded by this nature and wake up to lovely sunny days where there was still some snow in the mountains.
We felt at home at this property and we would definitely be back in our next visit to Snowdonia!
