The location of the cottage is between Beauville, a medieval hilltop village and Bourg de Visa, another ancient village, down a private driveway, with the only other neighbours being the owners of the adjacent chateau and the owners of two other holiday properties. If you like tranquillity and bird song, this is the location for you. No traffic, no madding crowds, just purely old fashioned French country life. The village of Beauville, which is a “Bastide de France” has a restaurant that people from many miles away travel to visit, as it has a kitchen that produces typical food of the region, including of course “maigret du canard” (duck breast) as well as all of the specialities that you can expect from the region, and while not being expensive, you certainly will never leave the restaurant still feeling hungry!A lovely feature of the village is the 13th century chateau, which was once owned by Eleanor of Aquitane, as well as the fantastic views from the walls of the village across the countyside. In this village, there is also a small supermarket, a baker and a couple of other small shops including a pharmacy as well as a bank.Bourg de Visa, to the east of the cottage at Massanes (5KM), also has a range of small shops as well as a bank and a restaurant, which is reputed to be good. But of course, no village would be complete without the regular market that is in both villages once a week, where speciality cheeses and other produce can be bought. Everything in fact that helps to make your stay a memorable holiday. If you like outdoor pursuits, there are wonderful areas to walk, or bike ride,- or even horse riding. There is an excellent stable within 2 KM. Where not only can you hire horses out by the day or hour, but they have a delightful rustic style restaurant, where you can relax after riding and enjoy meat cooked barbecue style over an open fire, while enjoying copious amounts of the local wine that comes at an inclusive, but inexpensive price! There is also a kayaking lake very close to Beauville, which is extremely attractive and where boats can be hired by the hour or part of the day. Instruction and safety equipment is provided for the novice, so don't worry, it's completely safe even for the youngsters. If the mood takes you to be more adventurous, then you can drive to some wonderful venues within an hour from the cottage, including the Chateau Bonneguil , where battle re-enactments take place throughout the summer months, or Moissac, which has famous Romanesque Cathedral, as well as a wonderful Sunday market and a good range of restaurants and shops. This is a fantastic part of South Western France, where you will find many things to surprise and delight you, whether you are looking for complete rest, or want to do some exploration of the historical areas of this ancient land of Aquitane.

"[--]est tres tranquil!"

We (family of four with 2 children 12 and 10) had a great week in mid August. The weather was great if anything a little too hot on occasion but we fell into the fiesta lifestyle very easily. The kids loved the pool and the general area is quiet and picturesque - we loved it. Minor word of caution - there is no oven - so do not buy pizzas for an easy meal on the evening of arrival! The Gite had everything we needed and Mr Mower was very pleasant and let us get on with it which was great - we may even come back so what better recommendation might you need.

"Excellent break"

This is our 3-4 trip to this region staying in Gites , we enjoyed an excellent restful two week break , the Gite was excellent value , and it was good to have the long established (40 years) owners next door , who could have not been more helpful. The location enables one to enjoy the best of France , food/markets,restaurants wine !! Mi Mi & Jamie

"It was heaven!"

John, Vivianne and Cindy were wonderful hosts - greeted us like friends rather than paying guests. Our 13 year old twins and my 78 year old mother didnt want to go home. - We will be back!.
