"lovely cottage in the heart of Beaumaris"
We have just returned from a week here and it is a lovely property. Very well equipped and spacious too. Very well decorated and presented. Welcome hamper was a real bonus, and it being dog friendly was a distinct advantage! Beaumaris is a lovely town and the property was literally less than 5 mins walk from the front - brilliant location. Beaumaris is also a great base fo exploring other places on the island. Thoroughly recommended property and town - we loved it!

Very much enjoyed staying in Hillcrest. The bottle of red wine, eggs, bread and butter were especially nice touches when we first arrived...all were put to good use. The instructions for using the heater were good, even for us folks from Hawaii who don't use heaters.
One comment: For US visitors a dryer refers to an electric/gas appliance, not a drying rack. That said, the clothes line and drying rack served us well.

"A homely gem in a very special town"
My wife and I have been guests at Hillcrest on a number of occasions. It is a wonderful place to stay right in the centre of town- so everything is within very easy walking distance- lesiure centre, library, court house, victorian jail, the magnificent sea front with newly refurbished pier and shops and restaurants (including the excellent Bulls Head pub and brasserie).
The house has been furnished in a warm and caring way that makes you feel that you are staying in a lovley home rather than a de-personalised holiday let or hotel - there are lots of nice touches from the books, maps, games, DVDs etc that make you feel you are being well looked after. They provide a welcome basket with wine, bread, fruit,cheese etc which is a really nice way to start your holiday. The place is decorated well with some nice personal details that show both a creative falir and also again a good homely feel.
Parking outside is a bit of a challenge but you usually find a space nearby. They provide a TV (bigger one would be nice) and DVD with digital box which works fine if you follow the instructions properly.
We have always found the owners to be really helpful with any questions or if any anything needs sorting and we can honestly say this is one of the best places we have stayed in the UK- great stay in the great town of Beaumaris

"Pefect Holiday Home In Such A Lovley Setting"
We are a family of 4 (children are 19 and 11) and this was our second visit to Hillcrest which is the most well appointed and comfortable self-catering accommodation we have ever used.
The little touches from the owner are wonderful from the fresh flowers on the dining table, in the bderooms and in the kitchen; the goodies left for us including a bottle of red wine/home made cake/cheese, milk and juice in the fridge/fresh eggs from her chickens (the best flavour ever) and a fresh loaf to the comfort of the beds with space for clothes, own things etc in each room, There are also tissues on the dressing table, books by the bed, games and DVDs and the use of a dishwasher.
We have been asked each time what our children's interests are and they have found a suitable present for each of them on their beds when we arrive as a surprise. In the porch is a buckett containing umbrellas(not had to use them so far) and fishing nets when the visitor goes "crabbing" on the pier, a brilliant pastime and not to be missed. The presentation of the cottage and everything in it has been immaculate on both visitis and we have had no cause to be concerned about cleanliness or the freshness of all the facilities.
Parking outside on arrival and departure day to unload and load is permitted for 20 minutes, thereafter, parking is available in a nearby mews which is a quiet side street only a short distance from the cottage.
Beaumaris is a charming location and there is plenty for all to enjoy. Particular recommendations include the pub directly opposite Hillcrest and the Pier House Cafe (overlooking the sea) which both serve superb food with excellent service (booking is advised). The Red Boat Ice Cream Parlour is a must as is the traditional sweetshop and the castle is of real historical interest, well worth a visit including up to the top of the battlements. Next door to is an 18-hole putting green which was great fun
We will definately be back to enjoy the comfort of Hillcrest and the charms of Anglesey and would highly recommend the traveller to visit, you will not be disappointed.

"Our chill out bolt hole, with all the home comforts we love"
Just a couple of hours from home we always look forward to arriving at Hillcrest knowing we will have everything provided in the way of basic provisions and delicious cake or scones. It's a cosy home from home, we especially like the log stove. I always bring lots to read but get diverted by the many interesting books.
Beaumaris has plenty of excellent places to eat out just a short walk away and interesting shops to while away the time as well as linger on the pier, enjoy the sea air and admire spectacular views of Snowdonia.

"Advertised as luxury but really is not."
The pictures look lovely but unfortunately it's very much the owners holiday home. It's just so full of their stuff that there's simply nowhere to put anything of yours. There's not even room in the kitchen cupboards for your food. Also we found the pots were dirty despite there being a dishwasher in situ, the property smells damp and the cushions are all flat as a pancake. Parking is awful as you have to park streets away and the TV is tiny for the size of the room.
Don't get me wrong, it's nice in a 'staying at Granma's house' sort of way but it's way overpriced, you can get so much more locally for much cheaper. Oh and beware, Blue Lagoon tried to overcharge us and refused to take any of our complaints seriously. All in all, a poor experience.
We are always keen to take on board guests feedback, which is very important to us but in this case we believe Mrs Barbers comments are wholly unjustified..
Hillcrest is managed by Blue Lagoon Cottages on behalf of the Owner and is one of our most popular Cottages with many guests returning 2 or 3 times a year and the guest comment book is full of compliments.
Mrs Barber stayed at Hillcrest in June and despite contacting her a few days after arrival and receiving no negative feed back it came as a surprise that she left 2 pages full of what appeared to us to be quite trivial comments about their stay at Hillcrest. The Owners housekeeper had also enquired if all was well during their stay and received a positive answer.
The Owners have taken on board Mrs Barber's views about lack of food storage space but most cupboards have always been kept empty for guests use. However they would like to point out that Hillcrest is not their holiday home and everything in Hillcrest is for the guests use and merely helps to maintain a home from home environment, including many items of Wedgwood china, both ornamental and cookware..
The TV is more than adequate for the size of the sitting room and the Owner has never had any comments about this before. A very substantial library of Books and DVD's is also offered in the property.
The Owner apologizes if any cutlery and cooking pans were not clean. The owner normally cleans herself and follows a high standard of procedures, however her housekeeper cleaned on this occasion and since the Barbers stay the Owner has instructed her housekeeper to double check the cutlery draw and cooking pans on every clean, as indeed the Owner does.
However, the specific comment in the Barbers long list of complaints left at the property about a pan in which food turned red was due to the guests use of the supplied red palm oil and not dirt in the pan.
The high quality welcome food hamper (containing local produce including wine cheese jam bread cake free range eggs and chocolates ) provided by the Owner is always Vegetarian friendly (the Owner is Vegetarian) and can be made vegan friendly if notice is given. No notice was given by the Barbers as to either dietary requirement. The Owner is upset by the remark that the high quantity Wedgwood china provided is 'like grandma's house' , although we feel the remark is irrelevant, as was the comment about how many cups and saucers they counted.. Such quality china is not normally provided in a holiday home and we feel Mrs Barbers comments are purely personal. The Guest book actually contains many comments about the fact that the property feels like home from home. Comments about the fluffy cushions are again personal and in our view should not detract from an enjoyable holiday in a welcoming Cottage.
As for Blue Lagoon overcharging The Barbers. I made a typing error in an email sent, which I apologised for at the time. An amount of £123 which was due for payment was typed as £132 and as a dyslexic I find Mrs Barber's comments very prejudiced.
Its worth noting that the Barbers damaged the blind in the bedroom. and the bed cover and throw were both badly stained with what appeared to be dried food and had to be carefully laundered after their visit. The housekeeper reported the property was left unusually dirty. Two lots of uncleared dog excrement were noted in the yard during the Barbers stay by the Owner when delivering extra fuel for the woodburner as the weather was inclement. The housekeeper had to clean the yard extra carefully as a result..
Mrs Barber's remarks about price are not justified by local comparisons an analysis carried out recently shows Hillcrest pricing structure to be in line with properties of the same standard and all in all are felt to be an unjustified attempt to receive a refund .
