The North Wales / Anglesey region
Anglesey is a place where you can get away from it all. Relax, enjoy the hospitality and lose yourself in the island’s winding lanes or on its spectacular coast.
Anglesey boasts 27 award winning beaches, six of them attracting the coveted Blue Flag award. Everyone has his or her favourite beach. The sweeping bays of Newborough, Red Wharf, Cemaes and Lligwy are impressive.Along the west coast you will find small postcard inlets, Borthwen or Porth Trecastell for instance, as well as the world class surfing destination of Rhosneigr. Anglesey becomes an extremely popular destination during the summer months, but such is the abundance of coves and sand, your only company might still be the seagulls, porpoises and a good book.
What is particularly appealing to families is that the beaches are clean. There are six Blue flag beaches, 13 Green Coast Award beaches, and seven Rural Seaside Award beaches. It means that in terms of cleanliness and the purity of water, these beaches far surpass the mandatory guidelines. Please use them….and, please, take your litter home and respect the next visitor.
There's also plenty to do for all the family with events, attractions and outdoor activities all set in beautiful scenery.
The Beaumaris area
Yr Han Fanc is located in the centre of Beaumaris and offers the perfect base for exploring the wide range of attractions on the Isle of Anglesey. Situated on the Menai Straits, the town enjoys beautiful views of Snowdonia and is also only a bridge away from mainland North Wales.
Whether you’re looking to spend time with your family and friends in the town’s numerous restaurants and bars, learn about Welsh history and culture by visiting the famous Beaumaris Castle (World Heritage Site), gaol and courthouse, or simply relax by taking a stroll along the beautiful Victorian Pier, Beaumaris definitely has something for you.
Other attractions in Anglesey include the Copper Mountain with its surreal lunar landscape, Anglesey Oyster Festival in October and Bryn Celli Ddu’s well preserved stone-age burial chamber near Llanddaniel Fab. Take a tour around Llynnon Mill - the only working Wind Mill in Wales and visit Oriel Tegfryn Art Gallery, the longest established Gallery in Wales.
For younger visitors Pili Palas’ butterfly centre offers a magical experience and also features birds, snakes and other exotic species. Anglesey Sea Zoo, Wales’ biggest aquarium offers an amazing world of marine life, shipwrecks and shark pool grids. The short bridge crossing to mainland North Wales offers even more family attractions including Glasfryn Park with karting, bowling, quad biking etc and Hwylfan Fun Centre, North Wales' largest indoor fun centre.

We thoroughly recommend both a trip to Beaumaris and a stay at Yr Hen Fanc. The house is large enough for 2 families with excellent facilities. It is very well presented, clean with lots of warm personal touches that are sometimes missing from other rental properties. The location on the High Street is fantastic. The main big item that could be added is wifi as mobile signals within the house (but not on the street) are a little unreliable. Beaumaris itself is lovely town for a short or long stay. We particularly enjoyed the New Year fireworks at midnight off the castle walls - all of a 100 yard walk away. |
