The Scottish Highlands region
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the rugged landscapes of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. The beautiful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway is littered with fortresses and strongholds, testimony to its dramatic history. Moving north, the Highlands are to Scotland what the Pyrenees are to France, with equally breathtaking scenery and fantastic opportunities for walking and mountaineering. Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park are particularly famous for skiing, whilst Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Britain at 1343m, is a firm favourite for those seeking a challenge.
For the less energetic, the Whisky Trail provides a unique way of exploring many of Scotland’s attractions and for quieter moments, there’s always Loch Ness and a chance to spot the elusive monster! Scotland also has some of Britain’s best and cleanest beaches. Cromarty is famous for its bottle-nosed dolphins and Nairn, whilst claiming to be one of the sunniest and driest places in the country, has glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Several islands lie off the Scottish coast, each with their own character and heritage, however the Isle of Skye is probably the best known and most visited. As the largest of the Inner Hebrides, Skye’s turbulent geological past has bequeathed it a stunning coastline. Experienced walkers are drawn to the Black Cuillin Mountains, whilst those less experienced have an array of lower level coastal walks from which to choose or alternatively, visitors can take some time to visit Skye’s capital, the charming harbour town of Portree.
The Beauly area
The village of Beauly is a superb location for touring the Highlands. Situated 12 miles west of Inverness, on the north bank of the River Beauly, the village is within reach of Loch Ness, the coast and its sandy beaches, and the ancient Caledonian pine forests of Strathfarrar and Glen Affric. The village is a beautiful place, which is reflected in its name which is derived from the French "beau lieu". The residents are proud of the lovely community that they live in, and the village has won both Scotland and Britain in Bloom titles. The village was built around a 13th Century priory, and the ruins that remain today are a must-see for visitors. Beauly offers a great selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, and is well known for its craft-based industries. The scenic beauty of the Highlands is all around, making Beauly a wonderful destination for holidaymakers.

,Lovely cottage and very nice owners. It was ideal for the children as it is well off the main road. The view from the cottage is fantastic, we could see for miles. It is a great spot for touring the area. Beauly is a lovely village with every thing we needed for the week.

,We loved everything about this property and loved the village of Beauly which is a short walk away. Owners live next door and were more than happy to help us and come down to Beauly to escort us to the property. They gave us some advice about various aspects of Beauly.
We would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to others. Thanks again Sykes.
