It's quiet here! It's off the beaten track away from traffic and your nearest neighbour is the owners cottage about 100 metres away. It's about half a mile to the village and twelve minutes from a supermarket. There is a well maintained seldom used outdoor tennis court within a five minute drive, boules on the village green and within the Gite a quarter size snooker table as well as a dart board. Private fishing in a two acre lake is available close by at a small additional cost and there is river fishing as well. Wild Acacia provides an opportunity to enjoy country life and a place to relax and enjoy yourselves in a safe peaceful and private environment.

For your comfort within the property there are five double or twin bedded rooms sleeping ten plus a small double and an additional single bed on the mezzanine above the lounge. Both these beds have limited privacy and headroom but certainly suitable for children looking for something a little different. All beds have modern fresh linen and bedding. The well insulated property is light and airy and warmed in winter by two large log burners which add great ambience as well as heat.

Twelve guests will have ample space for cooking, eating and generally relaxing in comfort. This is all provided for with two modern kitchens, two lounges and two dining rooms. There is sufficient space for twelve or many more to eat and sit in comfort in either Gite if desired.

The tastefully decorated bedrooms all have double or twin beds and there are two ample modern lounges and dining rooms in each wing as well as two well equipped kitchens. The East wing is all on one level but the West wing has a number of steps throughout as the property was built on a sloping site and there are steps between some of the rooms.

If you want to relax in the grounds there are about twelve or so acres of paddocks and woodland to roam. The gardens around the property are currently mostly laid to lawn along with Walnut, Chestnut and Beech trees. Beyond the boundaries of the gite the area is excellent for walking, cycling canoeing riding and bird watching. Free WI-FI is available in the east wing but intermittent in the west wing. There are three superior double en suite bedrooms available at the owners cottage next door on a B&B basis, if required.

The village of Beaulieu Sur Sonnette is a quiet friendly sort of place with its own village shop open each morning and the supermarket in nearby Champagne Mouton is open seven days a week. You will need transport if you are to get the most from our beautiful Charente countryside and the surrounding areas, so please come prepared.

The Poitou-Charentes/Vendee region

Mostly Agricultural but with plenty to offer for Art, Music history and Architecture to name a few. There are markets during the day and sometimes at night and during the summer months it is not difficult to find towns and villages with free open air concerts or dancing in the streets with street vendors galore. There's plenty to do in this picturesque part of the world and here are a few suggestions...

The taste and tours in Cognac and have fun on a Gaberre (Flat bottomed boat)

The beautiful village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne with it's vaulted underground church

The hilltop town of Angoulême including the Classic Car race round the Ramparts each September

La Rochefoucauld château and restored mills.

The Lakes of the Charente

Wineries and wine tasting tours

Take to the water and canoe or hire a boat on the Charente, it's a beautiful river with lovely towns and countryside on route.

Beaulieu-sur-Sonnette

The nearest village is Beaulieu about half a mile away; it is a quite sleepy sort of village set in the heart off the Charente. It has it's own friendly village shop open each morning and there is a supermarket open seven days a week in Champagne Mouton about ten minutes away. Nothing much seems to happens in Beaulieu, locals play boules on the village square on Tuesdays and Friday afternoons but generally the village has a timeless air to it which may remind some of us of times gone by.

This is life in the slow lane, rustic, quiet and the place to ramble or cycle in a safe environment. There are excellent affordable restaurants and bars within a shortish car ride and lots of unspoiled countryside to lose yourself in, on your doorstep, if you want to.
