Wild Acacia (East Wing)
from £42 /night help
Gite | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
This generously proportioned Gite sleeps up to four in comfort and privacy in two ample double bedrooms. The accommodation is all on one level with tiled floors and is cool in summer and warm in winter due in part to ample insulation and a generously proportioned log burner which provides warmth throughout on cool days or evenings. The recently modernised accommodation is well maintained and furnished to a high standard for your comfort and practicality. There is a spacious lounge with log burner plus dining room and modern well equipped kitchen plus a new shower room with WC and sink and lashings of hot water when you need it. There is wifi access to the internet and French and English TV should you want it as well as a DVD player.
Outside the gardens are mostly laid to lawn with Walnut and Hazelnut along with Oak, Chestnut and other native trees. The grounds extend to over twelve acres and includes the owners property some distance away where you can also get board on a B&B basis should you want it. There is also a shared pool in the grounds available during the summer months.
The setting is peaceful agricultural countryside, mostly meadows and woodland with acres of Sun flowers or other crops, depending on the time of year. Wild Acacia offers a peaceful base for those who are looking for a quiet private get away from it all, holiday or as a comfortable base for touring. The local area is excellent for walking, cycling, canoeing and bird watching. There is private fishing available (prior arrangement required) in a two acre lake or in the river close by and fishing permits can be purchased in the village. There are little used but well maintained outdoor tennis courts in the village and boules is usually played on Tuesday and Friday afternoons on the village square.
It's about half a mile to the village of Beaulieu Sur Sonnette where there is a small shop and a Post office. You are ten minutes from a well stocked supermarket in nearby champagne Mouton. This is country life at its best and a place to relax, unwind and enjoy yourselves in a safe peaceful and private environment.

The Poitou-Charentes region
Mostly Agricultural but with plenty to offer for Art, Music history and Architecture to name a few. There are markets during the day and sometimes at night and during the summer months it is not difficult to find towns and villages with free open air concerts or dancing in the streets with street vendors galore. There's plenty to do in this picturesque part of the world and here are a few suggestions...
The taste and tours in Cognac and have fun on a Gaberre (Flat bottomed boat)
The Velo-Rail in Confolens (try 'U' tube?)
The beautiful village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne with it's vaulted underground church and restaurants.
The hilltop town of Angoulême including the classic car race round the Ramparts each September
La Rochefoucauld château and restored mills.
The Lakes of the Charente
Wineries and wine tasting tours
Take to the water and canoe or hire a boat on the Charente, it's a beautiful river with lovely towns and countryside on route.
The nearest village is Beaulieu about a mile away; it is a quite sleepy sort of village set in the heart off the Charente. It has it's own friendly village shop open each morning and there is a supermarket open seven days a week in Champagne Mouton about ten minutes away. Nothing much seems to happens in Beaulieu, locals play boules on the village square on Tuesdays and Fridays but generally the village has a timeless air to it which may remind some of us of times gone by.
This is life in the slow lane, rustic, quiet and the place to ramble or cycle in a safe environment. There are excellent affordable restaurants and bars within a shortish car ride and lots of unspoiled countryside to lose yourself in on your doorstep if you want to.

"Great for a quiet break, very comfortable, recommended"
We stayed in the smaller wing of the gite. Both wings are extremely comfortable and our dog had a great time with the acreage around the property. The hamlet in which the gite is located is about a mi… More
This is an entirely objective and fair review and we agree with the comments made. The guest's took advantage of our current discount for bookings made within two weeks of arrival and made their booking the day before arrival. They were model guest's and left the Gite and grounds as they found them, very clean and tidy. The flies were a nuisance that week for us and many of our local friends as well and we believe this unusual occurrence was linked with the fact that we had had a major wind storm (Tornado) a few days prior with 100MPH winds. The unusual phenomenon eased off a day or so after the guest's left and we assure future guest's that this is not a normal feature of the property. The comments about the BBQ and the micro wave have been taken on board and will be actioned for future guest's. We would welcome these guest's back any time.
