BookThe West Country / Dorset region
Dorset is an outstandingly beautiful county set in the South West of England. Bursting with stunning countryside and the dramatic Jurassic coastline, not forgetting numerous places of historical interest and mild South West climate making Dorset the perfect holiday destination.
The market towns of Bridport, Dorchester and Sherbourne also seaside towns for instance Lyme Regis and Weymouth are all within easy reach. Famous landmarks such as Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and Chesil Beach with Monkey World and Cricket St. Thomas Wildlife Park for the kids (or the 'big kids'!) are all within easy vehicle access.
There are many farm shops nearby including well known The River Cottage shop and cafe in Axminster. Also numerous restaurants near by are well worthy of a visit, including Masterchef winner Matt Follas' restaurant The Wild Garlic, Beaminster.
Summer Lodge Country House Hotel is approximately 15 minutes drive away and is the perfect place for a slap up lunch, dinner or their amazing afternoon tea in the elegant dining room. A treat absolutely everyone should try!! For an extra special treat book youself into their amazing spa for a spot of pampering.
The Beaminster / South Perrott area
South Perrott is a picture postcard village near the pretty market town of Beaminster. The River Parrett runs through the village and you can even walk through part of it (in wellies of course!) on the ' Parrett Trail' which takes you on a beautiful walk up to the next village of Chedington where there is a great pub with fantastic views down the valley for that well earned pint!
There is a pub in South Perrott called The Coach & Horses where you can meet the friendly locals, get a good pint and, if you don't want to cook, some decent 'pub grub'.
Church Hill Cottage is situated near the top of Church Hill in a private and secluded position. At the very top of the hill lies the lovely church of St. Mary's, where King George was said to have visited. On Sundays you will hear the melodic sound of the church bells chiming - you will really feel like you are in the countryside!
Getting here is easy with frequent direct trains from London Waterloo to Crewkerne station (only 5 minutes from the cottage), Exeter airport only 45 minutes or the A303 within 20 minutes drive away. Church Hill Cottage is in a very accessible spot.

Church Hill Cottage is delightful, the neighbours are friendly, the setting is beautiful and it is a great place for a truly relaxing holiday. We arrived a week before the sailing started in Weymouth for the Olympics. We had hot, sunny weather with not a cloud in the sky for the first week so spent most of our time on beaches with our 8 year old son. We recommend any of the beaches but loved West Bay, Weymouth, Lyme Regis and Charmouth, all of which are within easy driving distance. The local pub is 2 mins walk and food was good but other food options are relatively close in Crewkerne or Beaminster. However if you prefer to eat in the cottage there is everything that you need to cook with. There are loads of places to visit on slightly less sunny days and our son loved The Keep in Dorchester and the Tank Museum at Bovington in particular both of which are worth a visit. Lulworth Cove, Corfe Castle and Durdle Door are also accessible from South Perrott, but you do need to be prepared to negotiate some twisty single carriageway roads! The maximum number of people we had in the cottage was 4. A very minor drawback which didn't bother us in the least was only having one bathroom. It was lovely, especially the 'rainfall' shower, but if youre thinking of having 6 people (especially all adults) then it could need some careful planning. The other point is that the staircase is open at the bottom so for very young children it might be slightly risky! These are really minor points. We loved it and I don't remember ever feeling so relaxed and refreshed after a holiday. |

A place of tranquility, reflection and perfection. As you wind your way up to the cottage I challenge your troubles not to melt away the moment you feel the gravel path crunching underfoot. inspiring in so many ways, church hill cottage is perfect for families , perfect for friends and perfect for recharging those batteries that are drained from the fast pace of city life. If you crave the all encompassing peace that country life can bring you will find that and so much more here, the only thing that saddened me is that I had to leave! Every detail has been tended to without exception and the personal touches make you feel like you are home away from home. The peaceful surroundings and comfortable beds are the ideal recipe for a restful night's sleep. When you wake up and amble down to the kitchen you're greeted by the enchanting view of the garden and will find it almost impossible not to step outside whatever the weather! The perfect retreat - this location brings you breathtaking coastline and all the wonders of cozy country life. With an array of friendly country pubs serving delicious food you're spoiled for choice. Fancy a cheeky drink before you settle in for the night? Then grab a torch (very country) and embark on the 2 minute walk down to the pub at the bottom of the hill. The locals are friendly, welcoming and are happy to involve you in their evening – equally, if you're looking for a quite one there are plenty of corners to hide in. Free wifi too if you really must get online! Corner shops are a short drive away, many selling fresh local eggs! I wouldn't change a thing about my time here and I will most certainly return (which would be tomorrow if I could). |
