Beal has a popualr traditional Inn serving local produce and there is a well stocked shop at the nearby services.
Monks from Holy Island used to obtain their honey from this area once known as Beehill to make the famous Lindisfarne Mead.
Visit Lindisfarne Castle and Priory , St Aidens Winery Mead and enjoy the islands nature reserve with its rare species of birds and plants. The islands village has an interesting Heritage Centre , a Gospel Garden and a selection of cafes and island pubs serving real ale.
Enjoy stunning walks across the paths on the causeway or along the nearby sandy beaches. Ideal for walkers ,cyclists photographers and bird watchers.
The bustling market town of Berwick-Upon-Tweed is only 8 miles away with its large selection of shops and many interesting attractions.

The Northern England / Northumberland region
Northumberland is a fantastic destination for a self catering cottage holiday. This very special holiday destination offers fascinating historical sites, such as Bamburgh Castle and Dunstanburgh Castle, beautiful beaches, and charming villages and market towns, including Alnwick, Berwick- Upon-Tweed, Hexham, Morpeth and Wooler. Numerous outdoor pursuits are available, including golf, walking, cycling, fishing, horse riding, bird-watching and sailing.
Visit Northumberland’s Heritage Coast and explore charming fishing villages such as Beadnell, Craster and Seahouses. Take a boat trip (in season) from Seahouses to the Farne Islands. Visit the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, accessible only by a causeway at low tide, and discover its castle, priory and heritage centre.

Alnwick Garden with its contemporary water features and giant tree house is well worth a visit.
All that Northumberland has to offer lies within an easy one-hour drive from Newcastle, which itself offers an airport, vibrant nightlife, museums and shopping. Only a few miles south of Newcastle, you can visit the Angel of the North and the Metro Centre at Gateshead. Trains from London to Edinburgh regularly stop at Alnmouth Station, which is only a few miles from Alnwick and the Northumberland coast, and at Berwick-Upon-Tweed in the Scottish Borders, while good scenic road and rail links mean that a visit to Cumbria and the Lake District is another option during your stay in Northumberland.
The Beal area
There is a well stocked shop and popular traditional Inn serving local produce in close proximity and a bus service to Holy Island , Beadnell ,Alnwick and Berwick- Upon - Tweed from the village .
Only 5 miles from the village on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and on St Oswalds Way visitors can enjoy spectacular walks and cycling from the doorstep.
Holy Island can only reached by a causeway which is open at low tide and is a very special place to visit with its lovely village, Priory in the care of English Heritage , Castle owned by the National Trust and Nature Reserve conatining many rare species of plants birds and insects.
Visit the Barn at Beal with its cafe and Visitor and Birds of Prey Centre just before joining the causeway.
The Border Town of Berwick -Upon -Tweed is only 8 miles away with its many shops and visitor attractions including its castle and ramparts ,theatre and arts centre .
Bamburgh is within a short drive with its stunning medieval castle towering over its quaint village on one side and fantastic long sandy beaches on the other.Seahouses with its boat trips to the Farne Islands to visit the bird and grey seal colonies ( in season ) , working harbour and famous fish and chips is well worth a visit.
A visit to the medieval market town of Alnwick with its cobbled streets, contemporary water gardens and castle is a must .
With easy access to all the attractions that Northumberland has to offer the cottage makes an ideal base.
