The Area - Almond Apartment is located in the centre of Beadnell; a welcoming village which has long been a popular holiday destination renowned for its Heritage Coastline with wonderful sandy beaches, rich wildlife and extensive range of quality water sports; including sailing, kite surfing, sea kayaking, kite and wind surfing and scuba diving. With Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castles to the north and Dunstanburgh, Alnwick and Warkworth castles to the south Beadnell is also well placed for walkers, cyclists and wildlife watchers to explore the Cheviot Hills, Northumberland National Park and the Borders - all within 30 minutes.
Seahouses fishing port 2 miles north is the departure point for regular boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands - a National Nature Reserve famous for its puffin, tern, cormorant and kittiwake bird sanctuaries and seal colony. Seahouses has a good range of shops, cafes, classic pubs and places to eat, fishing trips, leisure centre and a golf course. 3 miles further up the coast is the picturesque village of Bamburgh with its famous castle, long beach and quaint tea rooms. Holy Island the birth place of Christianity and site of Lindisfarne Castle can be seen from the wild expanse of Bamburgh's golden, sandy beach and is just 35 minutes from Beadnell.
30 minutes inland is the bustling market town of Alnwick, with its own dramatic castle, often referred to as 'The Windsor of the North' and ancestral home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter's Hogwarts Academy). The Duchess's Alnwick Garden is well worth a visit – a spectacular contemporary interpretation of a formal garden which includes the Grand Cascade waterfall, Serpent and Poison Gardens, sculptures, the largest tree house with a restaurant in Europe and the largest cherry orchard of its kind in the world - visit in April or May to see the cherry blossom.
Golfers are well catered for by Seahouses, Bamburgh, Embleton and Almouth golf courses, ranging between a 5, 10 and 30 minute drive from the apartment.
For food lovers Craster,8 miles south is home to the famous Craster kipper; Bamburgh and Seahouses to the north have the Swan seafood smokery, the renowned Bamburgh banger and award winning home cured bacon to name but a few. Artisan cheeses are springing up locally too. Seafood lovers are well catered for by Robsons in Craster, various restaurants in Seahouses and Bamburgh, and the crab sandwiches are not to be missed at many local pubs including the Olde Ship Inn in Seahouses and The Ship at Newton.
For those looking to include some culture in their holiday, Beadnell is just over an hour by train to Edinburgh with its international festival in August and 50 minutes by car from Newcastle with its theatres, galleries, shopping and renowned nightlife.
