Cozeecave
About the home
The property is totally individual, dating back to 1888 and offers shaded al fresco dining as well as external dining on the BBQ and pool terraces.
Baza and the surrounding area has much to offer and from the property you are in walking distance of virtually all amenities. Baza Karting is just down the hill along with the open air disco, as is the weekly market, the town centre and the many parks, bars, bazars, banks, shops and restaurants. Just down the hill is the bus station and one of many taxi ranks if you prefer not to drive.
There are many fiestas all year round but early September is the 10 day Baza Fiesta offering, bars, stalls, rides and discos. Also, many food stalls and covered bars where the spanish dance to typical spanish music.
The land is on several levels with stairs leading to the cavehouse courtyard and from there, more stairs leading to the BBQ terrace and again, more stairs leading to the rooftop pool terrace from which you can see up to a distance of around 42 miles over Baza and neighbouring villages, with imposing mountain views and of course Jabalcon.

Cave houses are said to maintain the same level of heat all year round and are therefore not centrally heated. However, this means that they are pleasantly cooling in the heat of the summer and you have the luxury of sleeping with a snuggly duvet and not needing air conditioning. The is a log burner in the main lounge for the winter months and additional portable heating is available for the winter months should it be needed, but the log burner does give off a lot of heat. In addition there is a second log burner in the kitchen.

Castril is less than 30 minutes away and offers the opportunity to walk around one of the typical Andalucian whitewashed villages and a stunning walk along the gorge.
In the summer school holidays there are free council run activities in the evening for children of a younger age and the older ones can experience the various discos available, including the open air one, not to mention the many bars.
Granada and the Alhambra palace are less than an hour away and the pretty village of Mojacar is again in easy striking distance.

The Andalucia / Granada Province region

The province of Granada is varied and offers many areas of natural beauty, great for swimming, walking and just relaxing around or on the water. A trip to the sierras reveals stunning scenery and a variety of wildlife.
There are many beautiful coastal areas to vist, the typical Andalucian whitewashed villages for which the area is famous and of course Granada itself, with the famous Alhambra Palace and the aquapark. In Almeria province you can vist the beautiful Cabo de Gato with it's inviting coves and coastline and Mini Hollywood, the set of many a spagetti western is about a 60 minute drive. Don't forget your swimming gear for the pool and enjoy the pool bar and take your walking shoes for the zoo, although there is a mini railway and don't forget to catch the parrot show!
The Baza area
Baza is a historic market town providing several large (for inland spain) supermarkets, many, many bars and cafes and a variety of bazars offering whatever you may wish to buy including many items of the gift variety.
There is plenty to do, both during the day and the night, with bars, discos and Karting. Tapas is traditional, tasty and free, coming with each alcoholic drink you purchase. There are many wellkept parks with activities for the children and in many cases, situated next to bars and ice cream parlours.
The Ferier (Fiesta) in early September is not to be missed and there are many other celebrations throughout the year. There is sometimes wine tasting in the beautiful architecture of the Plaza Mayor which boasts the town hall, museum and Iglesia Mayor, dating back to 1529, along with markets such as the German market providing many stalls and attractions.
Activities are provided free by the Ayuntamiento (council)for the younger children weekly, during the summer holidays and the older ones can amuse themselves around the town in the many bars and discos. The municipal pool provides a venue for meeting other visitors and the locals and also offers up various events during the summer months. Horseriding is available locally and a short drive out will take you to the whitewashed village of Castril where there is a stunning gorge walk.

A four bedroomed cave house with own pool with wonderful views of the mountains and Baza Town. The owners Paulene and Alan live just in front of the cave, and are absolutely wonderful, on hand when needed and really friendly and helpful, giving you space to be on your own or sit and chat with them. If you are looking for somewhere to get away from the everyday pace of life in the uk, you will not be disappointed. I have never felt so relaxed and tuned out. The Baza Fiesta is colourful and full of entertainment, something for everyone no matter what age you are, fairground rides, disco, music, food galore and the whole town appears to be there each night.. Lake Negratin should not be missed, the turquoise colour of the lake and the mountains surrounding it from all sides will ensure you full in love with the place. You can swim in the outdoor spa set in the mountainside before having some wonderful food in the restaurant. The cavehouse is larger than expected (the pictures on their website gave the impression it would be smaller). There is a sheltered terrace outside your front door, with a bbq area on the 2nd patio and pool on the 3rd. Peace and quiet, and a short distance to the main town. It has everything you need to survive, including 2 fridges (plus another on the pool terrace), freezer, small oven, hob, iron, stereo and full of character. Supermarkets and bars with tapas all close by. If you are looking for a real authentic getaway and on a budget then this is the place and Paulene and Alan are fantastic hosts and have a car you can hire, althought this was out when we arrived so they took us to visit places themselves and we learnt more about the area and didn't have to worry about getting lost! http://cozeecave.com/default.aspx |
