The Andalucia region

The ski resort of Sierra Nevada is just over 1 hour from Bacor and the snow capped mountains can be seen The historic city of Granada is only 1 hour away and offers much for you to see and enjoy. There are markets, musuems, galleries etc. Just wander around the old quarters or visit The Alhambra Palace. Next you have Guadix with its Saturday market, Cathedral and many many ancient buildings and cobbled streets. The nearest town Baza, only 20 minutes away has an enormous market on Wednesday and is not to be missed. Just 10 minutes from Bacor there are Neolithic burial sites. Visit the Thermal Baths at Zujar and sit in the warm water and look at the 13 Km Lake Negratin. At Lake Negratin you can swim, fish, hire a canoe or pedaloe or just lay at the lakeside sunbathing. There is a lot to see and do in this area and that is why we recommend you hire a car.

Baza

As we have mentioned before but cannot mention enough the wonderful Turquoise Blue Lake Negratin is only 10 minutes away and offers so much. You can swim, fish, hire a boat or just relax and people watch. On the Freila side there are pedalos to hire. On the Cuevas De Campo side you can choose naturist or clothed areas to sit and swim or walk the old road which was hidden under the lake for many years and has just re-appeared due to the lack of water. There are restaurants and cafe bars all around so you have no excuse to be hungry or thirsty.

The village has many fiestas but the largest is in June. It lasts for 3 days and everyone is welcome. It is one large party from Friday to Sunday night when we have a large firework display which outshines many a city one. In Baza, starting 6th September there is a 2 week Fair and Fiesta. Well worth a visit. Go to Baza and see the Flamenco Dancers perform and listen to that haunting Spanish guitar

"A real taste of Andalusia"

The cave house is set in the beautiful village of Bacor, surrounded by amazing mountains, an enormous lake, vast olive groves, amazing history and culture and lots of friendly locals. It is a great location to discover the true Spanish way of life. There is plenty of local amenities that provide all you need and it is very well connected with autovios for day trips to the local cities and national parks. The cave house is a great place to chill out and kick back. The temperature in mid October was around 25-30degrees celsius everyday and we didn't have a drop of rain! The house is really a great temperature inside and is very comfortable. It's brilliantly equipped with all the modern appliances and is owned by a very friendly couple who provided us with lots of information on the local area.

You obviously felt the same way about Andalucia and Bacor Olivar as we do. There certainly is plenty to see and do and we try and provide as much information as we can to help you plan your stay. We are glad you now feel recharged and refreshed. That is the magic of the real traditional Spain. Thank you for your kind words. It makes all our efforts worthwhile.

"Great place to stay to visit the area"

Extremely well equiped. If you are unsure if items are provided just ask and Violet will email you back. Fantastic base for touring the area. We were looking for a similar property to buy in the area and suceeded! Violet and Roger were very helpful in giving us guidance based on their own purchasing experience. They also showed us their own cave which is absolutely stunning. The only difficulty we had was with holiday lettings who advertised the property at the incorrect price and then messed up recieving our deposit. They were also difficult to contact by phone (no ansaphone facility). In the end we dealt directly with Violet and Roger.

Thank you both for your kind words on here and in our visitor book. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us despite the few hitches beforehand. We aim to please. I agree that this is an ideal base to stay to enable you to get out and about exploring the stunning countryside surrounding Bacor Olivar, and perhaps even finding your own unspoilt little home. Thank you once again.

"A wonderful holiday rental and holiday experience"

The cave house is lovely and has every thing you could possibly need on holiday. Has stunning views of the surrounding mountains and is in a quaint, traditional Spanish village. Still has a couple of local stores and a seperate butcher and bakery. Plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas and a very helpful information book provided at the rental for quests, great places to eat aswell. Loved the area and the local restaurants, can,t really think of any bad points!! Had a lovely holiday and would definately return

Thank you for your complimentery comments. Thats what we like to hear. We are so pleased that you found everything you needed in the cave house, including lots of local information, to make your holiday complete. We look forward to you returning in the not too distant future. We agree the local area is stunning and deserves to be explored at length.

"A relaxing stay in a very well-equipped Spanish cave house"

The cave house was a perfect base for our visit to family and friends in Bacor. A car is essential to ensure that you are able to visit the many attractions in the area. We enjoyed the markets in Guadiz and Baza, churros and tapas. The restaurant, and views at the reservoir were fantastic. An information book on the area and visitors reviews of their stay were very useful and provided by the owners. We will certainly be staying again,

Thank you for your kind words. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our cave house so much that you want to return. Thats the kind of response we like to hear. We are glad you found the information folder useful. We feel that there is so much to see and do around this area and if people dont know what is around them, they would miss so much. We enjoyed gathering all the information needed to make the folder so useful. Look forward to seeing you both again in the very near future.

"Lovely, unusual house in stunning landscape."

We are a family of 2 parents and 2 teenagers. The cave house was a delight - comfortable, well-equipped and wood-burning stove for chilly nights. Most of the buildings in the village are cave houses and chimneys, doors and satellite dishes sprout from the hillside. The village has a couple of bars, a good butchers, a small supermarket and another small village shop very near by. Restaurants are a short drive away, but mainly we cooked at home. The cave house lies at the foot of the castle ruins which provides great views over the village and amazing surrounding countryside. Great walks, in stunning countryside, especially around megalithic tombs overlooking spectacular gorge at nearby Gorafe. Easy drive up from Almeria - about an hour and a half. The owners, Violet and Roger, are friendly and helpful and have provided a helpful folder of info and activities. Great place and very unusual - we will certainly go again.

Thank you for your kind words about your stay in our cave house over Christmas. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and that you plan to return. Thats what we like to here. Yes there is plenty to see and do here and hopefully when you return we will find more for you to discover and explore. Thanks once again.

"Quiet location, friendly and helpful owners, interesting location"

We booked the cave last minute with the intention of having a quiet relaxing break. The accommodation fitted the bill perfectly. The kitchen was well equipped and enabled us to cook regularly. The rooms were comfortable and during a couple of cold nights the wood burner was a real bonus. Violet was very helpful and provided clear instructions to meet, collect the keys and take us to the cave. Good service. The location of the property does require a car to visit the local attractions but even without driving the shops in the village provide 90% of what you need (the bakery does great bread). Overall I would recommend visiting if you want a quiet place to stay in a Spanish village and away from the usual 'Costa' holiday.

Thank you both for your wonderful comments. We love it when people say they enjoyed staying in our cave and in our village. It makes it all worthwhile. Hope to see you both again one day.

"Cool cave"

What a welcoming and delightful place to choose for a holiday. The owners welcomed us warmly and left us a welcome pack of food/wine making it very easy to settle in quickly to the relaxed pace of life in the village. We really appreciated the coolness of the cave especially as the temperatures outside were 40+ C. We appreciated the information folder detailing all the local places of interest in the area. It is just a pity that it was too hot for us to do some of the walks available in the area. We would particularly recommend the dolmens burial chambers at Gorafe as something different to see.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and found it so relaxing. This is the proper Spain and we know that if we were going on holiday here, this is the area we would want to stay in. Also we try to make the accommodation comfortable in a way that ensures our guests have the kind of holiday they want. Everyone deserves good holiday accommodation,no matter where they go and we congratulate ourselves on our guest getting exactly what is advertised. Thank you.

"Wonderful!"

What an amazing experience. To live for 10 days in the wonderful cave was a real treat. The rooms are a cool retreat from the baking sun. It is very well equipped, if it isnt there you probally dont need it. The information folder is outstanding. Not just a few leaflets from the tourist information centre but personal accounts of days out. We used it every day and had some wonderful trips. Bacor is a lovely little village, a short stroll in the morning to the bakery and the butcher and home to the best sausage sandwich you could wish for. The surrounding area is stunning. The lake is great for swimmimg or kayaking, the mountains provide some great walking and the villages are full of character. Violet and Roger are perfect hosts, theyy met us with a warm welcome and are in the village should you need anything. All in all a wonderful place and we certainly hope we can return one day. Andy and Wendy

Thank you for your kind words, we are so pleased you enjoyed your experience in our cave. We would love to see you back here again sometime, but in the meantime please recommend us to your friends and familes etc.

"beautiful area, great house/experience. quiet. perfect for walking holidays, owners couldnt be more informative/helpful"

A wonderful experience to stay in a cave, perfect temperature made it very comfortable. scenery breathtaking. tons of information about the area and very detailed information of nearby walks. If you have kids needing entertaining its not ideal. The owners were available but not imposing at all. house was well equipped even providing picnic gear. Would be suitable all year round, definitely want to go back in spring for walking and winter for skiing. highly recommend. the entries in the visitors book in the house has only high praise for the house, owners and area, from various groups of people for varying stays from a few days to a few months at different times of year. You need a car

So glad you enjoyed your Bacor Olivar experience and that you found the information we provided useful.
