About the home

This is a lovely relaxing self-catering ground-floor apartment with white beams and a minimalist decor inside a magnificent listed 18th century manor with a rich history, in medieval Bayeux. The apartment is cosy (it has five electric radiators for winter) and the evenings are quiet, especially in the huge rear (communal but rarely used) garden.

Although this is self-catering, the rent includes sheets, pillows, towels, kitchen towels and a duvet that are provided. But you can always bring your own instead.

The €45 cleaning fee is mandatory and covers utilities and cleaning the whole apt and laundry.
If you bring your own linen and towels, the fee is €40.

The Castilly self-catering apartment is located inside medieval Bayeux. It is tranquil yet only minutes away are Parisian-style boutiques, shops, banks, restaurants and an open-air food market a few minutes walk away on Saturdays. Fine sandy beaches are only a few kilometres away as is Omaha Beach.

The beautiful gated front courtyard has conical shrubs and there is a covered bicycle rack next to the courtyard.
This is an ideal self-catering base for touring the stunning region and the D-Day beaches and museums, one of which is minutes walk from the apartment.

This is a low-tech apartment. There is no Wifi, television or DVD player; only a small hi-fi for playing CD's.
Most mobile phones can receive a signal within the apartment.

Although the main Castilly manor is stunning and regal, please understand that the apartment does not have gold taps and chandeliers.

Please note that babies or children are NOT allowed in this non-smoking apartment.

The spacious and quiet twenty-two foot living room area has a large sofa and armchair.

There is a 120 X 190 cms bed on a raised area in the living room, which can be used for a third guest if necessary.

It would be much appreciated if guests would kindly leave their shoes in the apartment's own hallway.

The white thermo-underlayed carpet and five electric radiators makes it very cosy in winter, and yet cool in summer thanks to the thick medieval walls.

The shower cubicle bathroom has a heated towel system and is warm in the winter with its own radiator.

Mobile phone signals are usually very good.

A seventy foot wide, walled rear garden with tall trees (communal but rarely used) is just outside the apartment door. Two deckchairs are provided.

Street parking outside the manor and around the nearby Place de Gaulle is a mixture of free and pay-parking.

Arrival day is from saturday to saturday.
Arrival time is strictly between 4 - 6pm.

To arrive earlier or later, please notify the owner first.

Rental rates are in Euros.

Conditions

Half the rent is payable upon booking as a non-refundable confirmation of your reservation. The balance is payable one month before arrival.
Payment method: by bank-to-bank transfer in Euros.
As I work on the basis of trust there is no security deposit. Please replace anything broken or damaged and please look after the lovely carpets.

A mandatory cleaning fee of €45 euros cash is to be left on the table. This covers utilities and cleaning the whole apartment and laundry.

If you need them, there are two laundromats very close.

There are no refunds unless an act of God forces cancellation of the holiday.

This is a strictly a no-smoking apartment - except in the rear garden which is just outside the back.

This self catering apartment is on the ground floor and is accessed by five steps up to the main communal hall and three steps down to the apartment’s corridor - which leads to the rear garden.

The Normandy / Calvados region

Ideally situated between land and sea and 2:15 hours from Paris, Castilly manor is set in peaceful medieval Bayeux. Enjoy the Mother of Pearl coast near Omaha beach, quaint fishing villages, antique shops and seafood restaurants.

There are many offers for recreation & leisure in the areas: trails for biking, (you can rent bikes in Bayeux) magnificent gardens, the D-Day bunkers and museums. For your personal fitness, enjoy the nearby tennis court or horse-riding, play the International Golf course near Port en Bessin or have fun with sailing.

The Luc sur Mer Thallasotherapy Spa with authentic Moroccan Hamman & fresh seawater therapy pool is wonderful for renewing yourself. Other highlights for visiting: the artists coastal town of Honfleur, Deauville with international film festivals, the Mont Saint Michel and Le Havre, the twice post-modern city, a Unesco World Heritage Site.

The Bayeux area

The the local museums and the Bayeux Tapestry are all nearby. The magnificent gothic cathedral is about eight minutes walk from the Castilly manor. The annual free Bayeux Medieval Festival is usually in July.

“An ideal retreat " pour deux" in central Bayeux.” The apartment is at the heart of Bayeux and has all that you need for a comfortable stay. It is fantastic to get behind the tall gates at the entrance of the chateux it is in and feel part of the surroundings. The large walled back garden is an ideal spot to relax, read and drink a chilled glass of wine - and you have it to yourself ! Bayeux is a lovely historic town to stroll around - lots of cafes ! The surrounding area offers lots of activities - beaches and villages . Ideal.

Bayeux was a good base for this, and your apartment suited our needs.

Regarding the apartment: plus points for us:
