This attractively appointed sunny and spacious unit, set in its own grounds, is ideal for a couple wanting a quiet holiday with stunning views over the village and bay. The sundeck, outdoor furniture, barbecue and kitchenette make possible small scale self catering. However, for those who prefer to eat out, the village cafes and restaurants are only a short walk away. The energetic will explore the huge range of Bay of Islands activities available at your doorstep: scuba diving, skydiving, parasailing, kayaking, bush walking to name just a few. The Bay is a world famous fisherman's paradise, whether you enjoy big game, light tackle or salt water fly fishing. For those looking for a more sedate holiday, the day, dinner and overnight cruises in the Bay will be your choice. Russell and the nearby Waitangi will fascinate those who are interested in New Zealand's early colonial history and contact between Maori and European settlers. Russell was the site of the first Roman Catholic mission and the historic Pompallier House contains New Zealand's first printing press. Bird lovers will see the native tui and weka which are common in the area and may even hear kiwi calls in the evening. Steam rail enthusiasts will relish a trip in the steam train which runs from nearby Kawakawa during the summer months.

Some may choose to relax in front of SKY TV, access the complimentary Wifi or simply soak up the beautiful views and sunsets from the deck.

The North Island region

The Bay of Islands is a famous marine playground, world famous for its fishing and bay cruises to explore the islands and enjoy the dolphins. For the energetic, skydiving, parasailing, scubadiving and bushwalking will keep you fit. The many island, dining, day and overnight cruises will provide days of enjoyment for the more sedate. Trips to the far north, including journeys through a majestic kauri forest and over the famous Ninety Mile beach to Cape Reinga are within easy access from Russell.

Boot-scooting and jazz festivals are popular attractions in the Bay and the concerts by Auckland classical musicians are enjoyed by Russell's music lovers. The many vineyards in the region provide ample opportunities for the casual or serious taster.

The climate in the region is mild and sub-tropical which provides a high level of comfort particularly for those escaping the winters of the Northern Hemisphere.

Bay of Islands

Russell provides all the outdoor activities of the Bay of Islands at your doorstep. However, for history lovers, Russell was the second capital of New Zealand, and in its earliest years was known as the "hell hole" of the South Pacific- testament to the lifestyles of the early sealers and whalers. Visiting nearby Waitangi will provide insights into the history of the treaty signed between Maori and early European settlers. The first New Zealand Roman Catholic mission was set up in Russell and housed the country's first printing press.

There are some great walks in the area, the most arduous being the 7 hour Cape Brett walk which involves an overnight stay before the return trip.

For the fisherman, rock fishing is within walking distance of Te Manaaki, but big game, light tackle and saltwater fly fishing are available from Russell. At the end of a tiring day, the fish and chips you can buy in the village will never be forgotten!

Steam rail enthusiasts will appreciate the restored steam locomotive and its journey running in the summer months from nearby Kawakawa.
