The Sardinia region
is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (after Sicily and before Cyprus) and an autonomous region of Italy. The nearest land masses are (clockwise from north) the island of Corsica, the Italian Peninsula, Sicily, Tunisia and the Balearic Islands.
The name Sardinia is from the pre-Roman noun *sard, romanised as sardus (feminine sarda); that the name had a religious connotation is suggested from its use also as the adjective for the ancient Sardinian mythological hero-god Sardus Pater "Sardinian Father" (misunderstood by many modern Sardinians/Italians as being "Father Sardus"), as well as being the stem of the adjective "sardonic". Sardinia was called Ichnusa (the Latinised form of the Greek Hyknousa), Sandalion in Greek, meaning sandal), Sardinia and Sardo by the ancient Greeks and the Romans.
Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, with an area of 23,821 km². It is situated between 38° 51' and 41° 15' latitude north and 8° 8' and 9° 50' east longitude. To the west of Sardinia is the Sea of Sardinia, a unit of the Mediterranean Sea; to Sardinia's east is the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is also an element of the Mediterranean Sea.
The coasts of Sardinia (1,849 km long) are generally high and rocky, with long, relatively straight stretches of coastline, many outstanding headlands, a few wide, deep bays, rias, many inlets and with various smaller islands off the coast.
The island has an ancient geoformation and, unlike Sicily and the mainland of Italy, is not earthquake-prone. Its rocks date from the Palaeozoic Era (up to 500 million years old). Due to long erosion processes the island's highlands, formed of granite, schist, trachyte, basalt (called "jaras" or "gollei"), sandstone and dolomite limestone (called tonneri or "heels"), average at between 300 to 1,000 metres. The highest peak is Punta La Marmora (1,834 m), part of the Gennargentu Ranges in the centre of the island. Other mountain chains are Monte Limbara (1,362 m) in the northeast, the Chain of Marghine and Goceano (1,259 m) running crosswise for 40 km (25 mi) towards the north, the Monte Albo (1057 metres), the Sette Fratelli Range in the southeast, and the Sulcis Mountains and the Monte Linas (1236 metres). The island's ranges and plateaux are separated by wide alluvial valleys and flatlands, the main ones being the Campidano in the southwest between Oristano and Cagliari and the Nurra in the northwest.
Ogliastra is a province in eastern Sardinia, Italy. Ogliastra is the most mountainous province in Sardinia. With only some 58,000 inhabitants, it is also the least populous province of Italy. It corresponds roughly to the medieval Giudicato of Agugliastra.
The populations of the most isolated villages in Ogliastra are supplying pedigree, medical and genetic data to research in inherited diseases and the study about the extremely high longevity of local population. This research is coordinated by the company SharDNA.
This province of Sardinia has long suffered from a certain isolation: in fact, until the eighties of the nineteenth century this area was not reached either by road or by rail lines. Today the insulation is instead passed by the presence of a number of roads that provide links to the main towns of the region of Cagliari and Olbia.
Of great importance, such as to break the age-old isolation Ogliastra, is now completed New SS125 Cagliari Tortolì
Also important is the port of Arbatax, which set sail vessels bound for Genoa and, above all, Civitavecchia. A Tortolì there is also one airport in the 3rd level.
However, at least in terms of rail, this part of Sardinia is disconnected from the rest of the region: the line Mandas-Arbatax was closed to passenger traffic in 1997 and has since been used as a tourist line of the Green Train ARST. It is a tourist service, carried out with vintage trains and active during the summer months, which leads visitors through the most unspoilt areas of Sardinia. Today, this line was built between 1893 and 1894, with its 159 km is the longest tourist railway 's Italy.

1 - About transfer:
You ask me how much cost a taxi from Alghero to Baunei you remember right? Your flight landing in Alghero at 23:50 right? Check in internet how much you can pay for taxi from Alghero to Baunei, 3 hours and 30 minutes to go and 3 and 30 minutes hours to go back, 470 Km in total, medium price is 400 euros and I say you have to pay Gas and tips right? C'mon Anna you lose the memory?? tries to be sincere, I pay 60euros for just gasoline, and for 9 hours entirely devoted to you? How much would you have wanted to give me? I ask 200euros, and I think is a good price. (all the people who will read this reference, look at how much a taxi transfer cost)After she landing I wait her becouse she have to change money etc. etc. and I wait about 30 minutes.
2 - About "have fun together instead"
The next day she was in Baunei, she asked me if I could help her to find a bike to be able to move, I said yes, as all my guests I would be grateful to help. It was not an athletic girl, I have suggested is to rent an electric bike, but she did not listen and has hired a regular bike in Santa Maria Navarrese, from Santa MAria Baunei are 9 km uphill, of course, she was not able to complete the way because exhausted, a friend of mine helped by the middle of the street crying, and free, he gave her a ride at the flat.
Abandoned the idea of the bike, we had lunch together at a restaurant to celebrate his birthday and mine, we are both born in the first week of June. Am I wrong or did you tell me that I was beautiful, nice and interesting guy? I remember well and I have the email where you wrote me this!
3 - About your taxi transfer from Baunei to Nùoro not Alghero.
C'mon Anna, The taxi that you took, to go to Nùoro and not in Alghero, you paid 150 Euros. A Nùoro then, you asked to bring in Alghero. How much did you pay? The taxi driver is a great friend of mine, I know what you asked and paid for the transfer. Ah..sorry day taxi transfer not night taxi transfer.
4 - About my pardon
You must give me 200 euro, I helped you in any way, she offered me a lunch in a restaurant, I offered a dinner.
I'm sorry just for the the shower cover, If you told me, I fixed in 5 seconds.
5- About the flat
Everything that is described in the ad, is my apartment.
I suggest: If you do not have money to travel, use couchsurfing.
Listen carefully to the people who give you advice.
Plan your vacation before if you are not able to make do by itself.

"One of the best experiences I ever had!!"
Needless to say, Sardinia is the best place to be right now, but I never actually thought I could have so much fun and enjoy so much of it. I'm not only talking about the sea side, which was easily accessible from our apartment, and we had a lot of beaches we could choose from, but I'm also talking about the landscapes the Sardinian Island has to offer when you just need a day to cool off and relax, even away from the beautiful beaches. The mountains, the colors and the old architecture are something worth seeing.
The place we chose was great too!! In the heart of Baunei, a cosy, cool and comfy apartment. If I had to choose again, I'd definitely choose Antonello's apartment. He made sure we had everything we needed, gave us tips about where to eat, where to go out for drinks, the most beautiful beaches that were a-must-see!! Talk about hospitality! We had the best host ever!! We still keep in touch. This year me and my friends are definitely going back there!!

"Hidden Gem - perfetly located in sleepy mountain village with direct access to Sardinia's best beaches"
We were recommended Appartamento Albus by a friend who met the owner while travelling through Sardinia. Staying in Baunei was the best part of our trip. We were rented a car and were hitting all the beaches along the east coast. While the apartment is not a 5 star hotel, it has everything you need. In fact we preferred the authenticity of staying in a sleeping little mountain village and using it as a base camp for the many incredible outdoor activities -- it's right on a beautiful national park that attracts hikers, climbers and nature lovers from all around the world. To be honest one should stop in Baunei anyway if passing through as the views were the best we found in the whole country! Last but certainly not least are the beaches on the east coast of the national park... just google pictures of them and you'll see what I mean...!
Although Baunei is a hidden gem off the beaten track it's close to civilisation only a short drive away from Santa Maria Navarrese which is a great town for evening drinks, restaurants and people watching. Getting taxis back and forth is easy (Although the road has a long drop on one side which was a bit scary!)
The owner, Antonello Cannas, is a fantastic guy, and can help arrange anything for you during your stay. His tips on where to go when and how to get about were invaluable -- we felt like locals not tourists, getting great deals and always 'being in the right place at the right time' which is gold when you;re travelling somewhere for the first time!
I really cannot recommend Appartamento Albus and Antonello enough -- if your'e going to Sardinia you'd be foolish not to stop by Baunei.
