About this location
The East Sussex region
Just a few miles south of Battle is the old town of Hastings, famous as a smugglers rest and old fishing port. There you will find quaint streets lined with historic buildings, antique shops, unique boutiques, cafes, restaurants and traditional pubs. The local fishermen sell their daily catch from wooden huts on the seafront, The recent Jerwood gallery houses a collection of 20th and 21st century British art.
Other places of interest nearby include the historic town of Rye with it's cobbled streets, the art deco De La Warr Pavillion in Bexhill, Bodium Castle, Pashley Manor Gardens, Michelham Priory, Herstmonceux Castle, Bedgebury National Pinetum, and Penshurst Place and Gardens.
Family attractions include Drusillas Wildlife Park, Knockhatch Adventure Park, Middle Farm, Blue Reef Aquarium, Bewl Water, Kent & Sussex Steam Railway, Smugglers Adventure, the Observatory Science Centre and Yesterdays World in Battle.
Battle has a mainline railway station with trains running regularly to Royal Tunbridge Wells, Central London and Hastings.
The historical town of Battle in East Sussex is seven miles from the coastal town of Hastings and gets it's name from the 1066 Battle of Hastings. The striking abbey and battleground founded by William the Conquerer is now an English Heritage site and this amongst other local historical sites is an attractive and interesting place to visit.
Battle is a small character town with an array of shops, amenities and eating places. Within a few seconds walk of the property you will find individual boutiques, gift, home and antique shops, take-away food, an Italian restaurant, a French-style restaurant, a delicatessen, a butchers, a supermarket, banks, plus numerous pubs, bars and cafes. There is a market square that hosts a weekly market as well as a monthly farmers market.
