The West Country region
This region of England is known for its lovely countryside and many historic towns, houses and gardens. Easily accessible from London, the West Country is a paradise for walkers and cyclists. Particularly popular are the Cotswold Way, which ends in Bath, and the Kennet and Avon Canal which offers a flat route for walkers and cyclists through some stunning valleys and woods. The recently opened Two Tunnels cycle path is easily accessed from the canal, and provides a new experience for walkers and cyclists with its two former railway tunnels, one of which is a mile long and the longest cycle path tunnel in the country.
Bath is a beautiful city, renowned for its Roman remains and Georgian architecture, but also a thriving, bustling centre packed with individual boutiques, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Visitors to Bath can enjoy the only Spa in the UK to use naturally thermal waters, relaxing in the open air rooftop pool all year round. Nearby Bristol with its rich industrial heritage makes for a great day out, while ancient cities such as Glastonbury and Wells are a delight to discover.
Those interested in the arts and culture will find plenty to enjoy, including the Bath Music Festival and the Children's Literature Festival. The Theatre Royal in Bath regularly has plays from the West End, while Bradford on Avon's Wiltshire Music Centre holds frequent concerts and performances.
The area is great for families, with nearby attractions such as Longleat, Bowood and Bristol Zoo. The nearest beach is around an hour away at Weston Super Mare, but Dorset's Jurassic Coast is also easy accessible for a day out at around 2 hours away, or by trains to Weymouth which run frequently from Bradford on Avon.
Bradford on Avon is a small town about 9 miles from Bath. It has a Saxon Church, an ancient Tithe Barn, and many buildings from the 1700s when it was a thriving centre of the woollen industry.
Today, the centre's ancient buildings contain an array of shops including a deli, an excellent butcher and numerous boutiques, along with a wide choice of places to eat and drink. Bradford-on-Avon is well connected to Bath and beyond by road, rail and canal, and is a great base for walkers and cyclists wishing to explore the area.

"A fabulous stay if you want a true taste of excellent English cottage in Winter - log fire, beds and welcome package A1"
This was a well appointed property. Clean, tastefully furnished and decorated, comfortable beds and sofas, well equipped for cooking, games, books, puzzles for wet days, leaflets for what to do on good weather days. Log fire absolute joy. Welcoming flowers and provisions on arrival. We are planning a return visit in Summer next year (wanted to come this year but already booked for the weeks we wanted).
Thank you for your lovely comments - I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. I hope you will be able to come again in warmer months and make the most of the garden.

"Beautifully equipped cosy cottage"
I was so impressed by the detail the owner had gone to.Nothing more we could have wanted from the preserves and butter in the fridge to the warmth and comfort of Hollyhocks. It was very conveniently situated so close to the beautiful little historic working town of Bradford on Avon. Public Houses abound! All good. Fabulous walks along the canal or river Avon. Children loved the Lock and were soon helping to operate it. Mother and Grandmother loved the places to have a coffee nearby! Thank you! We will return!

"Comfortable, stylish with helpful owner"
Enjoyed our 2 nights here. The cottage had everything we needed and was very warm and comfortable.
Really liked: the helpful and friendly owner, the welcome bottle of wine and milk in the fridge, the open fire, the central heating, the decor, the overall feel, having the Castle Inn as the local pub!
Could have done without : the long walk up the hill (but taxis are cheap)
Would we come back: definitely!
