The Old Workshop is a luxury two bed cottage in a private courtyard on the edge of Bath. Just like our first property, the Saltings (174775), the Old Workshop is finished to a very high four star standard, ideal for a romantic get-away, a relaxing break or a base for all the many sights of the area. The accommodation is flexible, so the property is suitable and cost effective for between one and four people.

The Old Workshop has stunning views at the rear of the river Avon and beyond, underfloor heating, luxury oak painted kitchen, an ensuite shower room and main shower room. You can walk to the river Avon and a super riverside pub from where you can take a beautiful boat trip into the City of Bath. The surrounding countryside is easily accessed, by car, public transport, bike or on foot.

This is one of four holiday let properties in our courtyard in Batheaston, just on the edge and ten minutes drive from the City of Bath. We also have the luxurious four bed 'Mulsanne House' (274673) plus the Saltings one bed, and next door to the Old Workshop, the 'Coach House' (461116), a similar two bed property. Further details indoors

The Old Workshop has been set up to maximise the views over the beautiful Bathampton meadows at the rear, so the lounge/kitchen/dining area is on the top floor and the two bedrooms on the ground floor.

The fresh air ventilation and heat recovery system, coupled with luxurious underfloor heating, means you should enjoy perfect temperatures all year round.

Much use has been made of natural materials, so you will find lots of oak throughout the property, including the kitchen cabinets, which have been painted in one of our favourite Farrow and Ball colours.

The lounge area has two Chesterfield 2 seater leather sofas in which you can just sit and enjoy the view or take in some DVDs or your favourite music from the docking station.

The kitchen area, with its Bosch oven and hob is designed to be efficient as well as aesthetically pleasing and you will find all the equipment you might need, whether you just want to boil an egg or whistle up a gastronomic delight!

The bedrooms can be configured to suit your requirements. A couple will be allocated the en-suite room at the rear with 'Super King' size double bed. It's not only super king, but also 6' 6" long! We don't think you will find a bigger or more comfortable bed in a holiday let. For three or more, the second bathroom will be available and the bedrooms made up with either two single beds or a 'Super King' size - it's up to you. Either way, all the linen is Egyptian cotton, helping to ensure you have an indulgent night's sleep.

Both bathrooms are to a high standard, so you can enjoy unlimited amounts of hot water and the best, soft, Turkish cotton towels, plus the luxury of warm tiles underfoot.

Further details outdoors

Enter from the High Street into the private courtyard with secure parking just yards from the door.

The courtyard itself and our properties within it have all been tastefully restored and renovated in traditional style, with lots of Bath stone.

The West Country region

It's not difficult to see why the West Country in general and Bath in particular is one of the most popular areas in the UK for year round holidays and short breaks.

Bath is at the centre of an almost unrivalled tourist area with activities for young and old alike.

The beautiful countryside of the Cotswolds and Mendip hills offers plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, walking, cycling or just chilling out.

Country pubs, Michelin starred restaurants, historic buildings, great nightlife, festivals all year round - what more could you want?

Use Batheaston as a base or as a destination in its own right.

Access is from the M4 from the East or M5/M4 from the South or North. Bristol airport is within 45 minutes drive and the Bristol-London rail line provides regular services to Bath Spa station, which is an inexpensive bus or taxi ride from Batheaston.

Bath

Bath has served as the pleasure drome of the UK for over 2000 years and there are few places which can even begin to equal it's unique combination of history, architecture, shopping and gastronomy.

Bath is a World Heritage tourist destination, its history dating back to pre Roman times. It is acknowledged as the second most popular tourist destination in England.

Renowned Georgian architecture rivalling that of Paris, Venice or Rome has been enhanced in recent years with the addition of the £45+million Thermae Bath Spa, Britain's only natural thermal spa, featuring the natural mineral waters which first attracted the Romans, who named Bath, Aquae Sulis. The http://www.thermaebathspa.com offers every kind of luxury pampering experience, including the open air roof top hot bath, which is not to be missed.

But it's not just about history and architecture.

Bath has some of the best shopping, eating and drinking experiences to be had.

The new Southgate shopping area features all the quality brand names housed in impressive Georgian style buildings and complements the famous Milsom Street and the myriad of streets, alleyways and passageways housing many unique shops and designer boutiques.

When it comes to food, the choice spans everything from grand Michelin starred restaurants to family owned bistros cooking the best local produce. Amongst some of the best known names are Jamie Oliver's "Jamie's Italian" in Milsom Place and Michael Caines at 'The Priory' as well as a huge choice of other eateries including an authentic Sushi restaurant, wonderful tapas and a quirky Nepalese dining experience You will be further spoilt for choice by the massive selection of Indian, Chinese, Italian, French, Far Eastern and British food on offer.

After your meal, Bath's evening entertainment is similarly diverse. The number one recommendation of Trip Advisor is the 'Bizarre Bath' comedy walk. This is a brilliantly funny experience and is listed in Trip Advisor's top 10 of 'things to do' in the whole of Europe! The Theatre Royal, Komedia comedy venue or the Little Theatre, showing those hard to find films are popular choices or enjoy a sophisticated drink at Hall and Woodhouse. You can round off the night with a boogie at one of Bath's many night clubs.

At almost any time of the year, Bath is host to a huge number of festivals. These include the world famous 'Bath Music Festival', the 'Bath Food Festival' and many others covering comedy, culture, guitar, street performance, costume and so on.

Many of Bath's visitors come just to explore the Roman Baths and Pump Rooms, whilst the Abbey, the Circus, the Royal Crescent and the Assembly rooms are just a few of the sights you can catch from one of the many open top bus tours.

Or you can spend the day on the look out for the famous! Amongst those known to either live or spend time in and around the City are Johnny Depp, Nicholas Cage, John Cleese, Van Morrison, Midge Ure, Manolo Blahnik and Jonathan Dimbleby .

Batheaston provides easy access to all those delights but is also a destination in its own right. Situated at the foot of Solsbury Hill, made famous by local resident Peter Gabriel, the village nestles at the end of the Cotswold Way. Bordered by the river Avon, where you can fish, take a boat ride or enjoy a waterside drink and a bite to eat. Or why not be adventurous and take in some 'wild swimming' at the fabulous Claverton Weir? It's an easy cycle or good walk from Batheaston and is a gorgeously beautiful place and one of Britain's best wild swimming spots. Also easily walkable is the Kennet and Avon canal, with its immensely popular 'George' public house, right by the water. Or wander up into St Catherine's, a valley so beautiful, Jane Seymour made it her home and welcomed the likes of Robbie Williams and other celebrities. The Saltings has already welcomed a couple of 'celebrities' to stay, but discretion is assurred so we won't say who. Other 'stars' who appreciate Batheaston's qualities and have made it their home include Ian Holloway the manager of Blackpool football club.

Batheaston has a fascinating history, much of it reflected in it's many ancient Cotswold stone buildings. Between 1909 and 1912, Batheaston was the refuge and home of the suffragettes. The most famous, Emmeline Pankhurst, was amongst many who helped establish an arboretum in the village as a symbol of their hopes for political equality.

Within a short drive of the village you can visit Castle Combe, often claimed to be England's prettiest village (check out the motor racing circuit too!) and Lacock, a National Trust owned historic village which featured in the Harry Potter films. Longleat Safari Park is an easy 30 minute drive.

Post office, pubs, traditional English fish and chip shop, mini supermarket, chemist, newsagent and hairdresser can all be found in the village, just a few minutes walk from the Saltings.

We are really pleased you had such a nice time here. We are lucky to have the Bathampton Mill almost on our doorstep and the boat trip into the City from there is a real treat. Sorry you found the BBC reception poor. It's a bit of a mystery as it seemed ok when we tested it. Perhaps it was the weather - we will keep an eye on it anyway.

Thanks ever so much for the comments. We too were a bit disappointed we only got a Visit Britain 4 star rating, but they use some strange criteria. Certainly everything we can control is 5 star. As you found, the house is highly insulated and has a heat recovery system, so quite often the heating is not needed, but we always put it on as some people feel the cold. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it and we hope to see you in one of our properties again. John and Jane

"Really Good, Perfect Retreat After Hectic Shopping Trip"

Group of 4 Stayed, Both rooms were set out as double's, Good to have seperate bathrooms for both rooms to use.

Lovely finish to the whole place, welcome pack was.. Welcome, loved the views from main living area + distance into City centre was just about right (Too far to walk, but bus stop right outside & recommended Taxi drivers did us proud).

We have been to Bath several times, over the years, but the guide left for us was spot on, local knowledge is always the bomb!! Found a few new places to visit, Christmas market was brilliant fun (Breakfast At All Bar One Helped), Stollen & Glueweine, Free Samples From Stalls & Friendly locals made this a perfect pre-christmas treat.

Had a great night out at the Komedia on the Saturday Night (Highly Recommended).

The ability to get away from the crowds & city centre, getting far enough out to give the belief that you were in a differnt town, was really good.

Nice to hear you enjoyed the Old Workshop and the Xmas market. It was really great this year - even better than before, we thought. We think it's nice to retreat to a quiet spot after the hectic bustle of Bath, so we are glad you found the same :-) Same time next year? :-)

"Great self-catering property for visiting Bath"

I was visiting as I was attending the Bertinet Cookery School for a week. This is a great place to stay for a visit to Bath. Free parking, bus stop right outside which takes you straight into the middle of Bath in 10-20 mins depending on traffic, a week's return ticket for £10! Very quiet, very clean with lovely furnishings and and incredibly comfortable bed. If you want a great place to stay, very convenient for Bath but you don't want to pay extortionate Bath prices then this is the place for you.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and found us so convenient. It's hard to convey that sometimes when you are just looking on line, but like you, all of our guests love the location.

We hope you have been putting your new cookery skills to good use! Hope to see you again soon.

"Fab house, brilliant location, great holiday!"

We stayed at The Old Workshop for 3 nights. The accommodation is wonderful and all of the essentials were provided. All of the rooms are beautifully decorated and are comfortable and cosy.

The Old Workshop is in a great location, just a short walk to the shops/pubs/takeaway in Batheaston and a short bus/car journey into the centre of Bath.

Jane and John couldn't have been more helpful and ensured that arranging our stay was a smooth process - thanks very much!

We certainly couldn't find anything to complain about and very much hope to stay here again - would reccommend The Old Workshop to anyone.

Thank you very much for your compliments - we really appreciate it and hope to see you again soon!
