The West Country region
Described by the ancient Welsh Celts and the Saxons as the Land of the Summer People, Somerset is a county of captivating contrasts.
Its coast takes in long sweeping sandy beaches, seaside resorts, harbours and marinas, and the dramatic Exmoor coastline.
Venture inland to an epic countryside of protected landscapes, rolling hills, wild moorlands, ancient woodlands and wetland habitats, dotted with historic towns and villages.
At the heart of what makes Somerset tick is its distinctive culture and history that includes willow and cider making, great local food & drink, the legends of Kings Arthur and Alfred and much more. (www.visitsomerset.co.uk)
Mentioned in the Domesday book, Beckington is a quiet but not dull village. There are 2 good pubs and a small delicatessen in the centre of the village and an award wining farm shop on the outskirts.
There are over 100 listed buildings with a thriving village and church community, tennis and cricket club.
