High Orchard
About the home
About the home: High Orchard sleeps up to 12 people and has spacious reception rooms and a luxury kitchen. It is perfect for families and groups of friends looking for space to relax.
It is an imposing modern house, with light airy rooms throughout, and with 3 ensuite and a family bathroom it is well equipped for our visitors. There are pleasant gardens and ample parking spaces on site.
The house has lovely views and is just a few minutes drive or an easy scenic walk from the historic city centre. Bath has a wonderful heritage which visitors will enjoy to the full. How many places in the world have major features such as the fabulous Spa built by the Romans and still in daily use? Its contemporary counterpart the Thermae Bath Spa, with its fantastic roof pool, is a modern wonder. The Georgian City Centre is probably unparalleled in the world for classic houses in such numbers. But it also has current day restaurants from Raymond Blanc and Jamie Oliver as well as the renowned Priory Hotel's award-winning restaurant, under the direction of two Michelin starred Executive Head Chef Michael Caines MBE.
Hospitality service: We are able to provide in–house meals to order, breakfasts, evening meals, canapés, or whatever our visitors wish, via our own Bath based catering company. Have one of our own chefs prepare and serve you a gourmet dinner, for instance, or ask for luxury picnic lunches. All produce is locally sourced from markets and award winning farms, and directly supplied from daily landings of fish and seafood from Cornwall – check www.eat5star.com

Further details indoors:
On the ground floor there is a luxury Smallbone kitchen and a spacious dining hall seating up to 12, with full height views down the valley. The 32 foot lounge has a LCD TV and two sofa beds, and is spacious enough to have other sofas and chairs. On the first floor there are 4 double bedrooms. There are 3 ensuites with deluge showers, 2 of these also have double Jacuzzis, and all bathrooms are finished in natural marble, polished slate or limestone. One ensuite bedroom has a double bed and a sofa bed, another has 3 single beds and a TV, the third has 2 single beds and the non ensuite bedroom has 2 single beds. All bedrooms overlook the pleasant garden to the rear, or have views down the valley to the front, and they are all very private. Each bedroom has good wardrobe space, and a hairdryer. In addition to the 3 ensuites, there is a family bathroom. We have a balcony especially placed to take advantage of the views, which guests are invited to use at their leisure. We call it the sundowners balcony.

Further details outdoors:
The large gardens can be accessed via double doors from the lounge and the kitchen, opening on to 2 rear patios which get really warm in the sun, taking advantage of their southerly aspect. The garden is well provided with furniture; most parts have tables and chairs and there are loungers for keen sunbathers. There is a separate toilet near the kitchen, also convenient for the garden. The drive is wide and easily accommodates quite a few cars.

Enquire nowThe West Country / Somerset region
Somerset has a wealth of attractions for the visitor. Seaside resorts such as Weston Super Mare and Clevedon, the beautiful Mendip Hills, Cheddar Gorge and of course the incomparable Stonehenge, nearby in neighbouring Wiltshire can be added to Wells with its magnificent cathedral, and the mysterious Glastonbury. Sporting visitors will appreciate the horse racing at Taunton, Wincanton and Bath, with its evening meetings. Golfers will not want to miss playing Burnham and Burrow, maybe the best links course in the West Country, and Enmore Park, favourite of great Somerset cricketers.
The Bath / Combe Down area
Visitors, even if never having previously seen the city, will be aware of its historic attractions. What they will discover during their stay is how compact is the city, and how leisurely they can get around while still seeing all the icons of its history. The magnificent Great Pulteney Street, linked to the city by Pulteney Bridge is at one end of the core, and the Royal Crescent at the other is barely a mile away. The Roman Baths, the Abbey, the Circus and most of the other legendary buildings are within that central area. The other thing they will soon discover is that the city doesn't have a season. The attractions such as the Baths and the Thermae Spa are open year round, and the year is interspersed with annual events such as the Christmas Market (22/11/12 to 9/12/12). Details of all the attractions can be see on visitbath.co.uk the excellent tourist information service.

DIRECTIONS WHEN ARRIVING FROM THE M4 MOTORWAY:
You are heading for High Orchard, Ralph Allen Drive, Bath BA2 5AE.
At junction 18 take the A46 Bath route south from the motorway roundabout, straight over the first roundabout, beware the speed trap, stay on the A46 Bath road until the A4 Bath turn - at the intersection take the ramp off to the left, then at the roundabout, immediately, take the 3rd exit Bath via A4 London Road – again, beware another speed trap.
Straight through the traffic lights outside Morrisons supermarket, then at the next set of lights, CLEVELAND PLACE take the left turn for Through Traffic, follow A36 right at the next traffic lights, through one roundabout and another set of traffic lights, then just after the road becomes one way take the second left into PRIOR PARK ROAD A3062, continue onto RALPH ALLEN DRIVE
In ¾ mile immediately after the Prior Park College entrance look for HIGH ORCHARD on the right – the name is on the gates - pull straight in, we have plenty of parking. Leave your car for the whole stay if you wish, its free.
DIRECTIONS WHEN ARRIVING FROM THE SOUTH VIA A36
Approaching via the A36 Warminster Road, after descending a long hill past the Rose and Crown public House you will cross the River Avon over a viaduct. At the traffic lights turn left to Monkton Combe / Claverton Down, at the top of the hill turn left onto Claverton Down Road towards Combe Down, then turn right into Ralph Allen Drive A3062. High Orchard is on the left as soon as the road gets steeper. The name is on the gates.
GUESTS ARRIVING FROM ABROAD
There are EasyJet flights into Bristol Airport from 43 European and UK locations, and daily direct flights from Orlando USA, or indirect flights from most locations abroad. There is a well signed bus / rail connection to Bath Spa, or use the commodious taxis which are available on request when departing the airport. Around 35/40 minutes through glorious Somerset countryside, £40 or thereabouts.
All the major car hire companies are at the airport.
ADVICE FOR RAIL TRAVELLERS
You will arrive at Bath Spa station, leave via the main exit on the same side as platform 2 for taxis. Ask for the top of Ralph Allen Drive, it’s then the 3rd drive on the right after the entrance to Prior Park College. You will see the High Orchard signs on the gate. Let the driver pull in to the drive, no point carrying luggage any further than you need. Expect to pay about £6. Ring the front door bell and we will be pleased to take luggage to your rooms
DIRECTIONS FROM THE BUS STATION
The bus station is left out of the main exit of the railway station, or if you are arriving by bus take service no.1 to Combe Down via Ralph Allen Drive. Alight at Prior Park College, continue up the hill for 120 yards and we are on the right. Please ring 07747 785017 from the bus stop if you have the slightest problem with your luggage, we will happily carry it for you.
ACCESSIBILITY WITH NO CAR IS GOOD, PARKING IN THE CITY CENTRE IS LIMITED AND EXPENSIVE
There is a bus stop quite close by with frequent services to the City Centre, and the open top tour buses use the same stop. These are frequent and provide an excellent first view of the City with expert guides on every bus. Our particular one takes in the Bath Skyline. Taxis are readily available, around £6 to the city centre which takes 5 or 6 minutes. Walking is a healthy alternative, go via the glorious Prior Park, by the Palladian Bridge and the historic Widcombe Manor – long time favourite haunt of the Royal Family.
We will be at the house to greet you!

We stayed at this house for my sister's hen weekend which she wanted to be 'glamorous'. This house certainly started the weekend the right way. It is a house with WOW factor. All the ladies were happy with their sleeping arrangements (largely single beds) and luxury bathrooms. The weather was glorious so drinks in the evening sun in the garden was most enjoyable. A short drive into town. Superb views. We saw lots of balloons - magical. The owners are friendly, accommodating and communication was excellent. Thank you! |

We booked this house for a hen party. The house is easy to find and only 10 minutes from the centre of town. Marion and Jack are a lovely couple and instantly made us feel welcome. There was lots of crockery and serving dishes for our large meal on the Friday night and it was so warm and cosy even though it is a large house. On the Saturday we got the Bath open bus tour from the bus stop just 1 minute down the road. The house is such a lovely house and if you are looking for a place to relax with friends or family just outside of Bath, this is ideal. |
