The West Country region

The cultural city of Bath is designated a World Heritage Site and is renowned for its fascinating two thousand year history and for its beautiful architecture.

It has been home to many famous authors, artists and composers. Jane Austen was perhaps its most famous inhabitant and there is a museum within walking distance of the apartment that celebrates her life and works. Other residents have included Charles Dickens, Sir Henry Fielding and Sir Thomas Gainsborough. There are a total of 17 museums for you to visit including the American Museum and the Fashion Museum containing exhibits of clothes worn dating back to the 16th century.

There are many things to see and do in Bath and numerous places of historical interest. You can relax in the thermal spas or visit the ancient Roman Baths. You can sit and have afternoon tea in the grand Pump Rooms, whilst listening to a stringed quartet. There are numerous music festival and sporting events held throughout the year.

A little further afield you may wish to visit the beautiful cities of Bristol and Wells or the site of Stonehenge; Longleat Safari Park; Glastonbury Abbey and Tor; Cheddar Gorge, famous not only for its cheese, but also for its beautiful scenery and cave systems or Wookey Hole. Somerset is a beautiful county and well worth exploring.

Bath

You will be abslutely spoiled for choice as to what activities you can do in Bath and all within easy reach of the apartment.

The apartments driveway is located directly opposite one of the entrances to the beautiful Royal Victoria Park and Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens contain a huge selection of some of the most beautiful species of trees and flowers found from around the world and is a wonderful place to just sit and relax and admire. Within Victoria Park you will find many different areas in which to either relax or play, including a spectacular childrens play area containing zip wires, assault courses, a carousel, swings, slides, a large sandpit with sit on diggers and a skate park; in fact something for every age group. Refreshments are available on site. There is a large duck pond where you can feed the swans and ducks or wide opens spaces where you can sit and picnic in or just sit and take in the magnificent scenery. Hot air balloons take off nearly every weekend in good weather and funfairs, steam fairs and circuses visit throughout the year. In the winter months there's an ice skating rink and plenty of other activities to keep you entertained.

Within a 5 minute walk of the apartment, you'll find award winning restaurants and pubs and a 10-15 minute walk through the lovely park will take you directly into the centre of Bath where you will find the Roman Baths and Pumprooms, numerous shops, bars, restaurants, clubs, theatres and two cinemas. Or you can catch an opentop bus very near the apartment that will show you the whole of Bath and its surrounding area.

There's also plenty to do if you're sporty. As well as horseriding and cycle tracks (you can hire bicycles in town), there are tennis courts and golf courses within a 5-10 minute walk and within a 20 minute walk you can watch cricket, rugby or football being played at different times of the year. There are also numerous watersports available to either watch or participate in on the River Avon, including canoeing and rowing (where some of our Olympic Gold medalists trained) and boating. At various times thoughout the year you can also watch horse racing at Bath racecourse, also a short drive away.

"Heaven in Bath"

Ms. Fozzard is an excellent hostess, the apartment was in perfect condition. With four persons there was plenty of spaces and the site and the views were very nice. The kitchen is well equipped and all the rooms (except the bathroom) have a window to let in the sunshine. Hot water and heating are not a problem. The apartment is well located, you can walk to see all the beauties that Bath has to offer. There's even the Royal Victoria Park across the streeth, no excuse not to walk through it. We also did daily excursions like Cardiff in Whales, Bristol, Cheddar Gorge, Salisbury, Wells, Stonehenge, Beaulieu, Purbeck Island.

Thank you very much for your wonderful review. I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much and I hope to see you again in the not too distant future. Kind regards and best wishes.
