The West Country region

Bath is in a wonderfully central position in the Southwest of England, at the foot of the Cotswolds and at the gate to the Mendips. There are fascinating prehistoric and heritage sites in all directions - such as Stonehenge, Avebury, Glastonbury, and Salisbury.

Set within the rolling hills of the most amazing West County landscape, Bath is a perfect base from which to explore English history. There are many historical sites nearby, within 60 minutes of Bath, including: Stonehenge, the enormous stone circle at Avebury, the beautiful cathedral at Wells, the mysteries of Glastonbury, the National Trust village of Lacock, the perfect Cotswold village of Castle Combe, the Cheddar Gorge, and Longleat, the spectacular home of the Marquis of Bath.

The famous Jurassic south coast of England is about an hour's travel from Bath and the Severn Bridge into Wales can be reached in about 40 minutes.

Bath is brimming with things to see and do. Designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Bath presents some of the finest architectural sights in Europe such as the Royal Crescent, the Circus, and Pulteney Bridge, alongside a diverse collection of museums and attractions including the Roman Baths, Jane Austen Centre and Thermae Bath Spa. Bath's compact city centre offers irresistible shopping and there are plenty of activities to enjoy in the surrounding area.

Bath has fantastic dining from Michelin-starred restaurants to boutique restaurants, cafes, and independent coffee shops. There are numerous festivals throughout the year and the delightful Theatre Royal which previews many West End shows.

In the centre of town, our apartment is just a few minutes from the iconic Bath Rugby ground.

The Thermae Spa is a really popular attraction; using the warm, mineral-rich waters which the Celts and Romans enjoyed over 2000 years ago, Thermae Bath Spa is Britain's original and only natural thermal spa. You can enjoy a session at the spa and have access to the warm waters and flowing curves of the Minerva Bath, a series of aromatic steam rooms and the open-air rooftop pool with spectacular views across the skyline of Bath.

There are festivals throughout the year, including the Bath International Music Festival (May/June), Bath Literature Festival (March), Bath Fashion Week (April), Bath Children's Literature Festival (September), Film Festival (November), comedy festival, and the famous Christmas market to name but a few.

Bath is a lovely Georgian city. In the time of King George, the city fathers built many innovative buildings in a style that has come to be known as the Georgian Style. Bath is the birthplace of this architecture. Now, with its architectural integrity and the golden hue of its stone, it is one of the jewels of Britain's heritage.

Bath is the only place in England with real hot springs and since the dawn of time it has been the healing centre for England. The Romans did not discover the springs, but they made good use of them. They arrived in the area around 45 A.D., after sweeping across Europe, and were delighted to find the healing mineral hot springs and the gorgeous location for them to start a settlement. This location had everything to offer, from the natural hot mineral springs, to the verdant wooded hills, giving shelter, game, and necessary resources such as lead and coal. In addition, the settlement had its own Clairvoyant or Seer, so that the new city, called Aquae Sulis, became a spiritual centre as well.

Bath in roman times was a a large city, like Rome, with stone walls and buildings with decorative porticos and mosaic floors, and with its mild climate, green and pleasant hills, became a major retirement centre for generals and senators. Its Roman heyday lasted for 400 years. The Romans left when their empire collapsed.

"Never again."

Beware the damage deposit !!We stayed for a week in December 2013.On the first night of our stay I did a load of washing. When the cycle finished I tried to open the door and it would not open. I didn… More

This client and his wife stayed at the apartment and whilst there used the washer dryer which is an expensive, new model. They advised that they had used the washing machine with no problems and on the second load couldn't open the door, the reputable professional repairers advised that the lock on the door has a time delay and had been forced. We had to replace the washing machine door and were significantly out of pocket. The cost to us was much more than the damage deposit and we retained a £50 portion. The damage deposit is there for a reason and unfortunately from time to time items get broken during a stay. Clients are thankfully for the most part honest and straightforward in such situations; we have never previously had to withdraw a part deposit as clients are most usually decent and want to put things right. We maintain high standards at the apartment and try as best we can to provide high quality, expensive furnishings for clients to use. We will endeavour to continue to provide high quality despite this recent but isolated experience.

"Moths everywhere, broken sofa bed, rude owner, otherwise lovely apartment in great position"

I meant to write this review at the time but have just come across the original email inviting me to leave a review which has reminded me how angry I still am at my stay in this apartment. It was a lovely apartment and extremely convenient. We didn't have problems with parking although we arrived early on the Friday which I suspect helped enormously. However, and it's a massive however, the apartment was infested with moths. They were carpet moths and they stowed away in my suitcase and so have now infested my house - my carpets, soft furnishings and clothes. In spite of following guidelines I found on the internet - I stripped naked in the pouring rain and emptied out the contents on my suitcase in the garden before coming into my house, put everything into the freezer for a few days and then washing it all on a hot wash. You can imagine what a nightmare this was. Particularly as I had to throw away a whole load of food from my freezer to make space for my sheepskin boots, coat, clothes etc.. The other problem was the sofa bed which I was sleeping on. It didn't open up when we arrived so I wasn't able to use it at all. My friend's a mechanical engineer and wasn't able to open it either, so it wasn't just us! I ended up sleeping on the floor for two nights - and had the carpet moths all over my face both nights. It was truly horrific. I complained on the first night but the owner was away and the person covering for her wasn't able to help with anything and said we'd get a refund. When it came to it, I put my complaint in writing to the owner and she took, I can't remember clearly now, but about 4-6 weeks to get back to me, returning my deposit in full, saying how lucky I was to be receiving my deposit at all considering we had clearly broken the sofa bed. And no mention of the moth infestation at all. Her accompanying letter was seriously bullying and rude, with absolutely no apologies or admission that there had been a problem, let alone compensation for having to sleep on the floor, for having moths crawling over my face every night (no exaggeration I promise), and the loss of freezer food, clothes, damage to my house etc etc that came over the following months. As I say, nearly a year on, I am still furious when I think about it and would never ever ever stay there again. I imagine the moths have been dealt with, and the sofa bed fixed, but her attitude to the problems should put everyone off staying but problems do occur and it's how the owner deals with them that counts.

This person stayed months ago, and has only now written this.. She contacted us for a short stay in high season and asked for a discount, which we refused. She had my staff on site running around for early check in and late departure and was very demanding. My staff were at all times polite, professional and courteous despite the demands. When she left she complained that she couldn't put the sofa bed back and said she had been bothered by a moth in the room again asking for money. Which we politely refused. After she left we called a professional company specialising in pests to check and if necessary treat for moths. They reported that there were no problems and applied a preventative treatment, I contacted the client and whilst returning her deposit in full refused to pay her compensation which she had demanded as there was no need. it was clear from the outset she wanted a discount and with hindsight we should have not taken the booking.

"Level walk to city centre"

It was easy to book this accommodation on line and pay for it through internet banking. I was advised of a key box number in order to access the key on arrival so it did not matter what time I arrived - I liked this process. A file had been left in the apartment with all the necessary information.
Whilst the property was below pavement level at the front there was a good size courtyard back and front so plenty of light in the apartment but of course no view! Sitting room was of a good size with sufficient seating for 4 or more people. Wi-fi worked well. TV was relatively small flat screen with independent speakers - it took me a little while to understand how that worked! Bedroom was of a good size with sufficient wardrobe hanging space, but central heating/hot water boiler was in cupboard in bedroom and I was not able to verify that there was a carbon monoxide alarm in place - I may have missed it although I did look. Bed was very comfortable. Kitchen was reasonable size and contained all the equipment you needed, there was also space to sit in kitchen. Bathroom was fine except shower head was over the middle of bath and shower screen only down one end so I was concerned about water splashing on to floor. Electrically heated towel rail worked well.
Apartment is about a 6 minute walk to start of city centre and about 10 minutes to the theatre and all on a level walk which was great. Railway station is about 12 minutes away, level walk and I easily managed it with large suitcase. I am very familiar with Bath and chose this apartment because of its good quiet location.
Although it was identified in the apartment's advertising, I did find the steps down to the apartment a little daunting, especially in the rain, despite good handrail, and very difficult with heavy luggage.
Overall, I would rent again and I had a good time - I was there for just over 2 weeks.

Thank you for taking the time to review and give lots of accurate detail from the perspective of a client on a long stay. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. The bathroom works well, but i agree we could improve it, in fact it s being refurbished in the autumn when we are a little quieter to become a wet room. We look forward to welcoming you back to Bath.
