The quality of the apartment was evident as soon as we walked through the door. There was amazing city views from the terrace and the central location was really convenient. The customer service from Bath Boutique Stays was second to none. Always someone on the end of the phone if required and they suggested lots of places to visit which was really useful. Bath is an amazing city and we will be back soon to stay in the same apartment. I have a hen weekend to arrange soon and Bath Boutique Stays is on the top of my list for one of their larger properties in the city. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable. |

A thoroughly enjoyable stay overall!! Booking the accommodation was so easy and the owners we very helpful in ensuring that all of our individual needs were met. Even though we arrived abit earlier than expected (surprisingly the motorway traffic was very clear!) we were met by the owner and he was very helpful in directing us to nearby parking and helped us in with all of our many bags!! We were welcomed with a lovely complimentary bottle of wine!! Overall the apartment met all of expectations, the furniture was chic and comfortable, especially the kingsize beds. The view from the terrace balcony was beautiful, although as the weather was abit overcast. I am sure that on a sunny day the view would be even better. The apartment had everything we needed for our stay. My only minor complaint would be that some of the radiators in the apartment did not fully heat up, in particular the one in the bathroom, possibly as a result of trapped air. Also one of the bedrooms had limited room and storage furniture. The apartment is in a excellent central location in Bath, where we were able to leave our car parked up all weekend and enjoy walking around this beautiful city. The Spa, Roman Baths, Royal Crescent and the Abbey are all within easy walking distance. In addition there are plenty of bars and restaurants very close by. The owners made very good recommendations for places to visit, eat and drink! As the apartment is centrally located and near to a number of bars and clubs, it was quite noisy late into the night. However this is to be expected in the centre of most cities and after the first night you seem to acclimatise to the noise. I very much enjoyed my time staying at the Roman View Apartment and would definitely look forward to staying there again. |

Before I go off on my rant, I want to say that I would have probably been very pleased with the apartment had it been better managed. It is, indeed, very well located, has a nice lounge and comes with a sunny terrace. We were also provided with some extras in the fridge, a lovely bouquet and some Champagne/sparkling wine. Now for the bad bits: - Booked it ages in advance and paid extra for early check-in, was told two or three weeks before the stay that the apartment was double-booked and we would have to use a different apartment on arrival until George St. is ready for us. Just to put this into context: we were arriving in Bath around 9am straight from Heathrow, after a 13-hour flight from Hong Kong, and going to a friend's wedding in Bath at 2pm. It was important to change/shower/sleep/get ready. To be fair to the managers, they did offer an alternative apartment and said they would transfer all of our belongings to George St. once we head out to the wedding. In the end, that was not required and they took us stright to the apartment, but were still getting it ready when we got there. It was still stressful news initially though and we have had to re-book our taxi to the wedding as a result. - When we first got to the apartment and the cleaner and the apartment manager had left, we found out that there was no hot water. We fiddled with the boiler for a bit, but one of us ended up having a cold shower. When the water didn't warm up an hour later, I had to call the manager, so they told me about the switch which needed to be turned on. The water did warm up after that pretty quickly. - There were only 3 towels provided for 4 people, although the advert states that linen and towels are provided. The three were a combination of sizes and colours (i.e. not a set of two towels per person - but that wasn't promised in the ad, just what I would have expected). Before more towels were delivered, we ended up buying a set of our own. - Beds. Now, the advert says that the rooms can be set up as either twins or doubles. We requested two doubles for two couples. I assumed that when two single mattresses are zipped up they pretty much form one double/king mattress, maybe with a little bump from the zip down the middle. I was wrong - at least in this case. The mattresses were, indeed zipped up - but at the bottom! Plus each single mattress had an individual single fitted sheet on it, which meant that there was a gap between the mattresses which one of us kept slipping into during the night. Eventually we just had to sleep on one of the single mattresses together. I've asked for a double sheet or whether we could buy two (for both bedrooms) and be reimbursed, but neither materialised. - Heating. Oh my word. Now I know it's been a pretty cold April, but I live in a very cold house myself and when we switch the heating on, the place does get warmer - not the case for the George St. apartment. Tried as we did, we could not make the heating kick in and had to wear our coats and jackets indoors. I did mention this a few times, but nothing was really done about it. I don't think the ancient thermostat works at this apartment. The fire in the lounge was a great help. - Kitchen. Poorly supplied. No microwave, no dishwasher, and a super-scummy kettle. It was so bad we felt we had to boil the water in the pans on the hob. Now, I appreciate that Bath is renown for its mineral-rich water, but all they had to do is supply a couple of descaling tablets for every new set of guests. Or give the kettle a descale every two weeks at least, or get a water filter, or something! The residue was so think it began to develop a greenish tinge - perhaps the chloride. The microwave was supplied on request, by the way. But if you want to do some serious cooking while in Bath - this is not the place for it, or bring everything from home with you, I don't think there was even a chopping board there. Again, I think they refer to the kitchen as the kitchenette in the advert, so I can't complain too bitterly (oops, too late!). - Toiletries. The toiletries were of good quality and I did take the leftovers home with me. Again, I know this was supposed to be a complimentary extra, but I was under the impression we would get shower gel, shampoo and hair conditioner, so we didn't take any shower gel with us, but we were actually only supplied with a shampoo and a body lotion. Not the end of the world. Again, bring your own. - No internet access. We were told we could use the cafe outside - seriously? I say, for the money spent on the lovely but not essential extras, best to get wi-fi. Overall, I would say that the place didn't feel extremely tidy, maybe a little shabby even, but I think the advert says or I got this from the email exchange that the apartment is newly refurbished. Again, I'm not sure whether most of these issues wouldn't have even cropped up had we turned up later and they had the time to prepare the place properly, but we needed to be ther early and the managers of the apartment had plenty of notice and even an extra fee for it. P. S. Sat night was pretty noisy with outside activity, but that's to be expected for such a central location. P. P. S. One of the bedrooms is very small and has very little storage space. Response: Thank you for your valuable review. We like to receive feedback when we have performed well and when we have fallen short of our guests' expectations. We are glad you enjoyed your time in Bath and the location of this wonderful property. We also recognise that an exceptionally early check in at 8am gave us some problems which we worked hard to overcome but did not fulfil all your wishes. We apologise for this. You are correct that the heating mechanism was working intermittently and a brand new system has been installed for our guests' warmth and pleasure. Exceptional standards are very important to us and enjoyed by all our guests who post extremely good reviews about our properties. We have reviewed and improved some working practices. A member of our housekeeping team has left our company as a part of this review. We offer you a complimentary stay anytime you wish to return to the beautiful city of Bath. Warm regards and thanks. |
