The West Country region

The countryside around Bath is among the most beautiful in all of England. There are many places to visit including tithe barns, ancient churches, pristine villages and the Cotswold Way. The West Country features not only the amazing city of Bath, but Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury and Glastonbury.

Bath

You will be just minutes from The Royal Crescent, The Circus and the recently opened Thermae Bath Spa and Roman Baths. You will be a few minutes from The Theatre Royal, Abbey Square and some world class restaurants, famous pubs and clubs. Well placed to enjoy music festivals, quality free pub music, film festival, art galleries, Literary Festival, rugby, the Christmas market and many museums.

Batheaston is a small historic village on the edge of the Cotswolds and St. Catherine's Valley, a few minutes from Bath City Centre. Access by car or bus takes a few minutes and it takes about 40 minutes to walk to Bath along the canal tow path. Within a short walk from the cottage there are several good local pubs and restaurants, a small supermarket, chemist, fish and chip shop and hairdressers. Click here for more on Batheaston.

"Clean, comfortable and excellent value for money"

We were delighted with our stay in this quirky cottage. We have stayed in a number of guesthouses and self catering apartments when visiting our daughter at the University of Bath and this property definitely wins on location, quality of accommodation and value for money. Would recommend the walk to Bath along the canal via Bathampton. We will certainly come again.

Many thanks for taking the time to review our property. The walk along the canal is lovely and quite easy being level. During the season there is also a river bus to town with is another nice alternative to the bus or taxi.
I hope we will see you soon.

"Perfect weekend"

My partner and I had a lovely stay in the batch. It is perfectly situated to bath (be warned - the bus costs £3 per person for a 5 min drive, whereas a Cab was only £8 for two) and got som… More

I am very glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the comment about the cab price. It really is a better bet than the bus. In better weather the walk along the canal is a great way to get into town and in the season there is a river taxi.
I hope we will see you again soon.

"lovely quirky cottage"

We stayed for 2 nights with our two grown up children. We loved the quirky nature of the layout and everything was very clean and modern. The price was almost the same as the Bath Travelodge where we… More

So pleased you liked it. Actually you can be staying in Bath and find it takes longer to walk to the centre of Bath that catching the bus in. It's actually a wonderful base for a proper week or two week holiday. There are some world class sites within an hour and so many country estates, game parks, museums villages and market towns to explore.

"Super clean and cosy appartment"

We spent 25 days in "The Batch" and our stay was great. There were 5 of us, and the landlord provided us with everything (from extra bedding to towels). The house was fully equipped with all necessary amenities and all the rooms were nicely decorated. There was also enough space for all of us. Nice and quiet family area with regular buses to the city centre (about £4.30 return).

It can be difficult and expensive to drive into Bath. The bus really works well, deliverers you to the centre and only takes a few minutes because of the dedicated bus lane.

"Fabulous & Comfortable Stay"

We stayed at The Batch in September 2013. I was in Bath for personal work, and traveled there with family. The batch is located in Batheaston (about 2 miles away from Bath) and very well connected to … More

We listen very carefully to what our guests tell us about their stay and we work hard to deliver the best we can. It is very rewarding when this is noticed.

"Delightful accommodation with easy access to beautiful surroundings"

Well planned accommodation serving as a great base to explore the surrounding countryside. All the modern conveniences one would wish for, plus the added advantage of cardio workout from climbing stairs! The layout is rather odd - the kitchen and bathroom are on the top floor, sitting room middle floor and bedroom at the bottom - quite a hike to use the bathroom in the middle of the night! Parking a bit of a challenge but not insurmountable.

The building is a converted Georgian church furniture workshop next to a converted forge. It is an upside down house but people seem to like the quirky nature of the place. Perhaps not ideal as a permanent home it is nice to experience something different while on holiday.
Most people find parking easy. As you said yourself in your email to me “Incidentally, we had no trouble with parking - had the car on the Batch for the duration.”
As you say it is a great base and I do hope we will see you again soon.

"good value for money"

A well located and well prepared. Just as advertised. In the large kitchen everything works perfectly. The bedroom is spacious and the bed is comfortable. House Ideal for 2 adults and 1 child.

It does work well with a child and we do not apply the three persons rate for a child.

"A recommander"

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Actually the small supermarket in Batheaston is open 7.00 AM to 10.00 PM seven day a week. A car is useful if you are going on an excursion, although there is a bus to Bradford on Avon where there is a train station. Certainly it is not worth taking the car into Bath, unless it is for the evening.
I agree that Batheaston is worth seeing. It is an ancient place with a lot of history and some beautiful buildings. Within twenty minutes walk there is the last home of William Wilberforce leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade; Eagle House which was built by
John Wood the Younger and used as a recuperation place for the Suffragette and the last resting place of Admiral Arthur Phillip who was the founder of New South wales.

I hope you will come again. If this translation is not correct please blame my computer.

"Avoid the congestion of downtown Bath!"

We stayed here for two nights in mid-May 2013. The place is exactly as advertised, and we loved our stay. We definitely recommend walking into Bath along the towpath, as many others have suggested. We… More

Driving into Bath from The Batch, or anywhere else for that matter, is not a good idea. Apart for walking, which takes about 40 minutes, there are other options. The bus arrives just outside the cottage often and gets into the City quickly as there is a bus lane. There is also the option of the boat. However, if you are going deeper into the Cotswolds “sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides” then you are the right side of bath.

Please come and stay again soon.

"Great value for money"

Excellent apartment, very clean, spacey (for up to 4), quite and nicely furnished.
The double bed and blanket were amazing. I slept as good as at home!
Pubs and convenience store open til 10pm nearby.
Easy to reach by car.
Unfortunately, public parking is only allowed for one hour right on the street; there is also a larger parking space available right behind the bus stop for up to 3 hours.
After check-out you cannot leave your luggage at the property to pick it up later. However, there are two cafés vis-a-vis the train station where you can deposit your luggage until 8pm.
The owner of the apartment is very helpful and replied fast to emails.

That is a really useful comment about the cafes near the train station where you can leave your luggage. I am sure other travellers will find it helpful
The street directly opposite the cottage does have a limit on parking during weekdays, although no one have ever seen a warden. However, if you go towards Bath for a few yards the parking is unrestricted and plentiful.
Please come again.
