The West Country / Somerset region

The area within which the city of Bath is found is rich in heritage and culture; with over 800 Grade 1 & 2 listed buildings.

In the greater area of Somerset there is much to do and see; with the added benefit of having some of the best of the British weather! Somerset's beautiful countryside has attracted many famous individuals throughout history; including Sir William Wordsworth an English poet laureate of the 19th Century.

Somerset has great historical significance, and has played a part in every period including the Roman Conquest, the Norman invasion, the War of the Roses, and even right up till the present day!

Bath / Central Bath area

This marvellous and historic house offers a unique experience in visiting a World Heritage city. You are within a building of great significance, surrounded by every modern comfort presented in great contemporary style and in the heart of a city renowned for its glorious Georgian architecture. Bath has a great selection of international retail outfits, designer boutiques, galleries, museums, bars and restaurants.

There are also wonderful historical sites such as the Roman Baths and The Abbey as well as fine entertainment at the Theatre Royal or pampering at the Thermae Spa. You could coordinate your visit with one of the many festivals in music, literature and food or perhaps take a hot-air balloon flight from adjacent Victoria Park. Nearby the Approach Golf Course has a compact 18 hole course from where you can enjoying marvellous views of Bath and the surrounding countryside. All of this is within a few minutes walk which is another pleasure of this memorable city.

The Bath Spa mainline railway station provides direct access to London Paddington (approx 90 minutes), and Bristol and is only a 15 minute walk from the property, as is the bus station. There is beautiful countryside all around with delightful villages to visit.

The Pool is set within a beautiful walled garden with deep herbaceous borders and a wild-flower walk is a turquoise heated pool measuring 6m x 12m. There is a broad sundeck with large round table, chairs and parasol, and plenty of teak sun-loungers. Alongside is a contemporary glass games room complete with mini pool table, table tennis and a kitchen facility allowing you to keep the drinks cool. There is also a netted trampoline tucked away in the corner.

The Grounds
Wrapping around the house are 6 acres of gardens and parkland beautifully laid out by Paola Brigatto, architect and landscape gardener. There is a splendid pergola and sunken garden with stone benches and seating, heavenly in the spring. You can follow a woodland footpath to the Faerie Garden with magical streams and ponds on descending levels and teaming with wild-life. The tennis court is located just down from the coach house. If you are Wimbledon standard you may be disappointed but it is certainly good enough standard to enjoy a friendly knock. Continue on this path to the lower lawns with a rose-bound vegetable garden.

Tucked away here are stables and wide gates that access the lane and allow for car-parking on the grass for as many visitors as you require. The manicured lawns stretch out punctuated by mature trees including walnut, birch, beaches, chestnut, willow and yew. The house and grounds are completely private. There are many country walks from your doorstep and plenty of OS maps and guides in the house.
