The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.
Uldale is a small village in the Caldbeck Fells away from the busier areas of central Lakeland. The village enjoys great views over to Skiddaw, the Caldbeck Fells and onto Scotland. It is an ideal base from which to relax and unwind in a tranquil area yet only 10 minutes drive from all the attractions of Keswick with its lake, numerous shops, a market and many pubs and restaurants. Hesket Newmarket is within walking distance and has a small shop, a tearoom and the UK's first co operative pub run solely by locals. Walks to Hike Pike, Carrock Fell and Skiddaw are recommended and the best thing is no car is required, all this is available from the doorstep of Groom Cottage.
