The Heart of England / Peak District / Peak District/Derbyshire region

The Peak District is an area of great natural beauty with rugged, peat-covered moorlands and magnificent limestone dales (great for walking and cycling, as well as other, more dangerous sports), plus picturesque villages and some interesting towns. It is the location of Britain's first National Park - the Peak District National Park, which is the the world's second most visited National Park.
The Peak District is a wonderful place to visit, whether it be just for a day or for a long holiday. There is so much to see the Peak District has it all, covering parts of the counties of Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Cheshire and Yorkshire.
The Peak District has numerous interesting and exciting tourist attractions. Probably the chief among these is Chatsworth House (5 minute car journey from Acorn House) which is a magnificent house set in a landscaped park which is the home of the Dukes of Devonshire. This is followed by Haddon Hall outside Bakewell - the home of the Manners family, who are the Dukes of Rutland - is a beautifully preserved medieval manor house.
There are numerous interesting towns to explore. Buxton is the one with the longest history, having been founded by the Romans, who exploited the warm spring water to build thermal baths, for which the town became very popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. As a result it has some magnificent buildings, notably the Georgian Crescent and the Opera House. It now has a thriving music and arts festival each summer.
Bakewell (10 min car journey from Acorn House) was founded in Saxon Times and is the home of the Peak District National Park Authority and is a busy market town notable for its livestock market. To the south lies Ashbourne, another market town founded by the Saxons, now the southern gateway to the Peak District.
The Peak District is a fine place for outdoor activities such as walking and cycling, rock-climbing, caving and hang-gliding.
The Baslow area
The picturesque village of Baslow is situated at the North end of Chatsworth House and the village has some unusual and striking features, not least, a river bridge that has three arches and is guarded by a toll house with diminutive measurements of only three and a half feet high. The village has a range of shops, restaurants and pubs and is only five miles from Bakewell, which has a further range of amenities and attractions. Chatsworth House and Park offer an array of attractions, with five gift shops, a farm shop, a garden centre and many fine places to eat as well as the house and park grounds to view. With so much to do and see, Baslow is the perfect holiday base to explore this part of the country.

"It has been a pleasure to stay in this clean and well equipped
accommodation, which made our short break a relaxing one (just what we
wanted)..... The walks which some of us went on were wonderful and
refreshing.... Next time and there will be a next time, we will have to be
well equipped with hiking boots. The garden more like a cricket ground was
well used by all, playing cricket. Views around the house are breathtakingly
beautiful especially watching the sunrise from the kitchen window.
In the few days we were here, we played, ate, drank, chatted, walked and
relaxed. A wonderful time was had by all, in so much that we all agreed to
do it again soon, but rather than a few days we would stay for a week or
two.
Our stay although brief, was one of the best multi-family holidays we had
been on"
