"Relaxing Stay in an excellent property"

A lovely cottage set in a 'real' French village, small and friendly, with excellent amenities and a superb location overlooking the River Creuse at the rear. Perfectly situated to visit any of the main Loire locations and chateaux, but do not let this prevent you visiting some of the less well known but equally beautiful neighbouring towns like Amboise, La Roche de Posay and Angles sur L'Anglin (where we do recommend the Salon du The). Alteratively, do what we also did - spend many happy hours spent relaxing on the sunny terrace with a glass of wine looking at the birds, fish and other wildlife in and around the River, an extremely relaxing stay. Facilities excellent, would heartily recommend this cottage.

"Excellent accommodation in brilliant location!"

This is the bestproperty of the many we have rented in France. Comfortable, spacious and very well-equipped. (Compare with recent French experience of a bedroom meaning just that: a room with a bed, and nothing else! And no comfortable seating at all.) Perhaps the fact that the owner is English, and uses the property himself from time to time, is something to always look out for. English tv definitely a bonus. Owner and local keyholders v.helpful. Lots of interesting places to visit nearby, including Futurscope, gardens, vineyards, chateaux, etc. Also good restaurants. And beautful river just below the super patio.

"Lovely, riverside location, spacious accommodation, very helpful owner."

We spent a fabulous two weeks here in May and the accommodation was exactly as it is portrayed. Very spacious and comfortable, the cottage exceeded expectations and to sit on the terrace overlooking the river Cruese late afternoon/early evening was heaven - so peaceful and quiet with just the sounds of nature and just the perfect venue to unwind after a days sightseeing. Although Barrou itself was extremely quiet, it was a perfect base from which to see all the major attractions in the Loire Valley, most less than an hour away by car - Chenonceau, Loches,Amboise, Angles sur L'Anglin and Chinon were just some of the places visited. Marie Claude was extremely friendly and helpful and on hand if we needed anything. The owner, Denis was prompt re answering e mails and most helpful - the wine and flowers upon arrival were a welcome gesture. Thankyou and we hope to return one day.

"Perfect Riverside Cottage Barrou"

In short this gite is the best we have used in over ten years it is perfectly situated in a lovely region with access to both countryside and amenities. The caretaker Madam Marie Claude was very helpful worth her weight in gold.

"A delightful 'Tardis Like' cottage for thoroughly relaxing holiday!"

We were very surprised on arriving at Riverside cottage to find just how big the living, dining and kitchen areas were. Far larger than they appear on the advert. The setting, overlooking the river Creuse is idyllic and very peaceful. The furnishings are extremely comfortable. The WIFI was much appreciated. We had very cheerful service at the local bakers and a friendly welcome at the bar/restaurant where the pizza's, carafe's of wine and ice creams are delicious and very reasonable. It would've been nice to have a couple more amenities in the village, but as with most places, it's a sign of the times that local business cannot afford to keep going. Marie-Claude (who looks after the house) and her family welcomed us like old friends and were all extremely helpful. Denis, the owner was very accomodating regarding our start day and key access and very informative with directions and local information. Our security deposit was returned very speedily. We would definitely recommend Riverside Cottage.

"Lovely spacious cottage right next to quiet river"

We were very pleasantly surprised on arriving at Riverside Cottage. The photo's do not really convey how quiet and accessible the river is from the rear of the property. Both relaxing on the patio area and taking a chair down to sit right on the bank were the real highlight of our week. The living space downstairs was alot more spacious than we expected and unlike some rentals we have been to is furnished to a very high, comfortable standard. The pool table was a real bonus and there were many other games/activities. The only reason for giving the property a 4 rather than a 5 was some traffic noise in the mornings and the top room had a feeling of being "seperate" due to the access (explicit in details). Two minor aspects that did not really affect the great week that we spent here as a family.

"Large,well-equipped, comfortable gite in beautiful surroundings with lots to see and do in the area."

The gite was well-equipped with everything we could need and was very clean and comfortable, the English television was an added bonus. The location by the riverside was lovely we spent many evenings just watching the ducks, egrets and even a musk rat. We had lovely weather for most of the 2 weeks we were there, hot and sunny with only the odd bit of rain.
Marie-Claude, who looks after the gite, was very friendly and helpful with lots of suggestions of what to do and see.
Barrou is well situated for all the attractions of the Loire valley, lots of chateaux and history, lovely contryside, excellent food and drink.
