About the home

Bentwitchen Cottage is in the small hamlet of Bentwitchen on the edge Exmoor National Park. The cottage offers you a place to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, but is close to the market towns of South Molton and Barnstaple, as well as the many coves and beaches that North Devon has to offer.

Part of a recent Barn conversion, the cottage has wooden floors, stone walls and some exposed oak beams. This upside down accommodation is designed so that the open plan sitting, dining and kitchen areas offer you enhanced views of the surrounding countryside, whilst down stairs there are 3 double en-suite bedrooms. The smallest bedroom has its own dressing room, which can also double up as a child's bedroom. Outside the Cottage has a patio area overlooking a wooded valley and gorse clad hillside.

The West Country / Devon region

The North Devon area is an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Towns and villages like Clovelly, Lynton and Lynmouth nestle snugly amongst the rugged cliffs of the imposing Atlantic coast. Exmoor has beautiful and breathtaking scenery, prehistoric sites, old churches and interesting wildlife. You will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy wonderful walks, including the beautiful South West Coast Path, paint or take photographs. This area also has some of the finest surfing beaches including Croyde and Saunton Sands where you can relax soaking up the sun or partake in water sports.

For a truly memorable experience get the M.S.Oldenburge (from Bideford or Ilfracombe depending on the tides) to Lundy Island, a three mile long island, 12 miles off the North Devon coast. A paradise for wildlife watchers it also has a marine reserve which you can dive off.

Bentwitchen Cottage provides a base for all these activities, as well as opportunities to ride, to play golf at the famous Saunton Sands Golf Course or to visit a number of outstanding gardens such as those at Marwood and RHS Rosemoor. It is within easy reach of Tarr Steps, The Chains - a wonderful place for the experienced walker, the Tarka Trail, Woody Bay and the Valley of the Rocks.

The Barnstaple / Bentwitchen area

South Molton, the nearest town, is 6 miles away and has a local market on Thursday and a farmers’ market on Saturday. Barnstaple, North Devon’s main market town, with its famous Pannier Market and Butchers’ Row – excellent for both meat and locally caught fish, is within easy reach and offers a range of shopping facilities and other activities. The Poltimore Arms, possibly one of Exmoor’s most delightful pubs, is just up the road and is definitely Bentwtichen’s “local”.

“An exquisite place to stay!” This has got to be one of our best holiday cottage finds to date! The house was spacious, comfortable and catered for all our needs! We really didn't want to go home. It is set amongst the beautiful Devonshire countryside and great for walks or just relaxing on the scenic patio. There is an abundance on wildlife on your doorstep. For family days out, the fantastic beaches are all close to hand which made for great days out but it was lovely to come back and relax in this superb house. With a family of teenagers it was also great that we all had our own space if needed, the en-suites to each room is a great idea! We would recommend this property to anyone and the owners are lovely!

Thank you so much for letting us stay over Christmas. The cottage, Christmas Tree and decorations were perfect. The log burner was lovely, especially as it was -3 some days - so cosy and comfy we didn't want to leave. The cottage was so well equipped we had everything we needed and more. We will definitely be returning in the summer

Short breaks are negotiable. These are priced at 70% of the weekly rental for up to 4 nights and 80% for 5 nights. Please telephone or email to discuss

A 25% deposit is payable to confirm the booking, with the balance payable eight weeks before arrival. Please note that if you holiday is less than eight weeks away full payment is required.

In the event of a cancellation deposits are not refundable unless the accommodation is re-booked.

Please note a fee of £100 is also charged to cover damage, including accidental damage or excessive cleaning. This is payable on top of the Cottage rental and refunded at the end of your stay.

All prices are per week and inclusive of electricity, bed linen and heating
