The West Country region
North Devon is quieter and arguably more beautiful than the busier south coast, and renowned for its rolling green hobbit-like hills, its meandering rivers and streams. The beaches of Saunton Sands, Croyde, Northam Burrows and Westward Ho! provide a varied choice for swimming and surfing.
The National Trust houses of Arlington Court, Knightshayes, Killerton and Dunster Castle are all well worth a visit, whilst for keen gardeners a trip to RHS Rosemoor is a must.
Both Dartmoor and Exmoor can be easily reached from Chulmleigh, which lies midway between the two, and for those suffering withdrawal symptoms from the big city lights, Exeter, with its magnificent cathedral and shopping, provides an enjoyable day out.
Chulmleigh lies 18 miles south-east of Barnstaple.
We provide a wide range of local walking maps to aid enjoyment of the stunning local scenery.
Chulmleigh golf course is open to both beginners and pros alike.
St Mary Magdelene church has one of the finest rood screens in the land.
The historic Chulmleigh Fair takes place in the third week of July and has done so since the 13th century.
Eggesford Forest offers superb woodland vistas.
Eggesford Country Centre combines an impressive garden emporium, craft shops and delicious all day dining.
The nearby Tarka Trail is great for both walking and cycling on the flat.
Local pubs: The Old Court House, Red Lion and the Globe
French's Cosmopolitan Bistro
The Chulmleigh Tandoori
The Old Dairy

"My dream home"
This was a most relaxing stay. The cottage was beautiful and full of history. The owner had gone the extra mile with wine, milk, eggs and butter waiting for us. Was lovely that we could get no phone or internet signal as it meant we could really switch off and enjoy the surroundings without interruptions. Would recommend this cottage and will stay again
