About the home
Rock is perfect for a couple or small family seeking a holiday that combines days on the beach with walks and picnics in the beautiful countryside of North Devon.
Rock Cottage is a delightful chocolate box cottage tucked into a North Devon hillside with views across green rolling hills, where the loudest noise is likely to be birdsong or thel bleat of a sheep across the valley.
Rock sleeps 4 people in two bedrooms (1 double and 1 twin). Built in the 17th Century, Rock Cottage’s two-foot-thick ‘cob’ walls will keep you naturally cool in the summer, snug and warm in the winter. In addition each room has a storage heater and a wood burner in the living room to guarantee lovely cosy winter evenings!
The cottage is fabulously equipped for all needs. Facilities inside include free Wi-Fi, Digital TV’s with DVD (living room and main bedroom), DAB tuner/ CD player (living room only), fridge/ freezer, washer/ dryer, AEG hotplate with self-cleaning twin-oven with grill, LG microwave oven, Kenwood kettle and toaster, Habitat and Portmeirion (oven-to-) tableware and mugs, plenty of stainless steel saucepans, knives and cooking utensils. For days out, there are even vacuum flasks and picnic ware.
The oak beamed lounge contains a large inglenook fireplace with woodburner and still contains its original bread oven. A Laura Ashley sofa and traditional wingback chairs offers plenty of seating from which to relax and watch TV (Freeview), listen to music (i-Pod port on Hi-Fi) or rediscover the delights of jigsaws and boardgames.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms – each with their own staircase – and a newly installed family bathroom with full-sized bath with overhead shower. Both bedrooms have a door or stair gate at the top of the stairs for child safety. The master bedroom has a large double bed. The twin bedroom has a small en suite facility with sink and WC. The twin beds can be put together if preferred as a second double room.
Rock has a small terrace garden with lovely outdoor seating areas, the lower patio having all weather wooden dining table, chairs and parasols, with small but steep path leading to a separate decking area to allow you to get the best of the views across the valley. A second patio with rock garden, border, arbour and chairs, steps separates the cottage from the off road parking space large enough for 2 cars.

Guestbook for Rock Cottage
Rock Cottage is just perfect, we wouldn't change a thing and we will be telling everyone!!! We had a a cosy, quiet night here in Rock Cottage, we went to the market in Barnstable and bought some good cheese, wine and lit the fire .......my perfect New Years Eve!! We really do feel like we have "stopped the world for a while and got off!" If it is possible we would love to come back quite soon, even if it's for a long weekend now and again just to recharge our batteries so we will be in touch." Sandra Palmer, London Dec-Jan 2011-12
“ Great Cottage – home from home ideal for our first holiday with baby!" The Hepworths. Aug 2011
“We had a fab holiday – a lovely cottage. Highly recommended the New Inn” The Cartlidge Family. Aug 2011
“ We much enjoyed our ½ term stay at Rock Cottage. Lovely home. Beatutiful views and wonderful weather. A great contrast to West London." The Ferry Family, June 2011.
"The village walks was wonderful to blow the cobwebs away. Honeycomb ice cream in the village pub is not to be missed. Snowdrops abound and primroses just starting. A great antidote to a working week in London." Feb 2011
