Whitechapel self-catering holiday cottages is truly an idyllic rural retreat. Situated within an excess of 500 acres of farm and woodland, it comprises a beautiful Victorian farmhouse along with two character cottages - all detached with private gardens and rooms tastefully decorated. Whitechapel is a wildlife haven with red deer, nature trails and well stocked lakes, with an added flavour of adventurous activities and relaxation.
Cottages can all be booked together, with the health suite and games barn space, and courtyard garden, making a great venue location for a party. Its also a great location for a quiet break for fishing by one of the lakes or a walk in the woods for a spot of bird watching.
Adventure? we offer Mountain bike hire, onsite kayaking and canoeing with qualified coach, and a climbing wall is only 5 minutes away..

The Barnstaple / South Molton area
Whitechapel is extremely well placed for exploring the whole of North Devon. We are also situated within an hour's journey of Dartmoor, meaning South Devon is easily within reach too.
Exmoor, one of the smallest of Britain's National Parks, is also known as Lorna Doone country as it is the base of R.D. Blackmore's famous novel of the same name. Amongst the beautiful moorland lie several beautiful villages including Dunster - with its magnificent Dunster Castle. Exford is the ideal base to explore the ancient Tarr Steps and to take part in fishing, shooting and riding. Journey time by car to the moor is approximately 10 minutes.

A delightful country cottage, well furnished and appointed, with everything we could have wished for. The spacious and comfortable rooms were much appreciated and the well-appointed kitchen made cooking easy and pleasurable. We thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi and sauna which, for us, stood out as one of the highlights. The only problem we discovered was a malfunctioning central heating system. However, Mr Burgess was quick to provide convection heaters to ensure we were warm and cosy. He is a superb host and landlord. |

The house was large and well fitted out with two log fires and plenty of wood to keep the December chills away (as well as central heating). The beds and furniture were in good condition and comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The spa and games room were good fun at no extra cost - as this was a long birthday weekend celebration it was great to pamper ourselves in the hot tub after a long winter walk. Chris was helpful, friendly and available and made us very welcome. My only niggle was that there was a broken window in one of the bedrooms that was impossible to close. As there was a couple of wild, windy nights, this made for a draughty, noisy night for the person in that room. However, as we didn't tell Chris until afterwards, we can hardly blame him for not fixing it! |
