Adrian and Carol Ann have continually invested in North Hill Cottages since fulfilling a long held dream when purchasing them in 2005. Like you, when they saw North Hill Cottages they were captivated by the peaceful magic of its location, affording beautiful views across a sleepy Devon valley from each cottage.
North Hill Cottages offer 9 cottages sleeping up to 38 people in individual cottages that sleep between 2 - 6 people. Ideally suited for couples, families or larger groups of people. The cottages are arranged around two courtyards in very close proximity to the pool.
The cottages have been lovingly converted from 17th Century farm buildings. Set in a fantastic rural location with great views and no other properties in sight.North Hill is a perfect country bolthole offering peaceful seclusion but with everything North Devon has to offer on the doorstep, from sandy beaches and moorland walks to Victorian seaside villages and child-friendly attractions.

In 2010, for example, we added a new indoor games room to our range of facilities for guests to enjoy (including an all Weather Tennis Court, heated indoor pool, sauna, children's play area and 8 acres of lawns and fields).
We really believe you should have as little to worry about as possible while you are staying with us.”

Indoor Swimming Pool
You can't always predict the British Weather, we all know this, and just in case it’s not like the tropics outside, we have a 33ft long, indoor heated swimming pool for your enjoyment with changing room, shower and W.C.
Alongside the main pool and also indoors, is a toddler pool 0.65m (just over 2ft) deep where those who can't swim unaided can be supervised safely. Both are heated to a comfortable 28-31°C.
If you just want to chill out, slip into the Jacuzzi, perfect for relaxing and letting your troubles drain away. This is heated to between 36-40°C.
All Weather Tennis Court
In case beach tennis is not enough – you can enjoy the real thing on our all-weather court right here at North Hill.
Indoor Games Room
Brand new for 2010 – an indoor games room for the young and young at heart. Includes pool, table tennis and table football.
Children's play area
A safe play space with swingy, bouncy things for the very young.
8 acres of lawns and fields
Enjoy the freedom to roam or find the perfect hideway spot for a cream tea picnic amidst glorious views.
Footpaths – right from your door
No need to jump into the car to go exploring. You can tramp for miles along beautiful footpaths across the ancient Devon countryside. See wildlife, dam streams, hunt for wild strawberries and experience the colour and aroma of a bluebell wood in spring.
The charming historic Devon town of Barnstaple is only 5 miles away, and offers whatever shopping needs you have including chemists, pubs and supermarkets.

North Hill Cottages is suitable for singles, couples, families or larger groups. We have 9 cottages sleeping 2, 4 and 6 people. They are all positioned reasonably close to each other so larger groups of up to 38 people + cots can be accommodated.

The West Country / Devon region
Everybody knows South Devon but North Devon is lesser known less crowded and has much better beaches with real yellow sand. The beaches are great for families and surfers alike and several of our beaches have been awarded Blue Flags.
The stunning beaches of North Devon and its world renowned reputation for wildlife, nature and beauty set a most amazing backdrop for the coastal towns and countryside villages that make up the area that is Devon.
Historic Barnstable dates back 1000 years and is a hub for great retail therapy. For nature lovers, see the puffins on Lundy Island or visit the Exmoor National Park to discover the most stunning views. The harbour, beaches and attractions in Ilfracombe have been attracting holiday makers in their droves since the Victorian era. There are so many places to visit in Devon - make sure you don't miss any.

Barnstaple is the oldest borough in the country and is the commercial and agricultural centre of North Devon. A must visit for anyone seeking serious retail therapy. Saxons first settled in Barnstaple (Barum) over 1000 years ago; In 930 AD it was a Saxon stronghold serving as a market for the surrounding countryside.
Today it has a wonderful mixture of Victorian, Medieval and Georgian architecture and is proud to be a multiple winner of Britain in Bloom. Visit the Barnstaple Heritage Centre, sited in a fine Grade 1 listed building to learn more about the town's 1000 year history.

Leave the M5 at Junction 27 and follow the A361 to Barnstaple.
When you approach Barnstaple there are two options to get to North Hill.
Option 1 takes you through Barnstaple which can be very busy at peak times with slow moving traffic. This is the route if you want to visit Tesco or shops on the way in.
Option 2 bypasses Barnstaple and is recommended if you don’t want shops.
Option 1
As you approach Barnstaple turn right at the roundabout sign-posted A39 to Lynton and the Hospital. Follow signs to the Hospital which involves several roundabouts with right turns. Proceed until you see the hospital on your right and go straight through the lights. At this point I would recommend you switch off the SatNav as it will not take you to North Hill despite you having entered the right postcode.
Shortly after this turn left on the B3230 signposted Ilfracombe and Blakewell Fisheries. After about ½ mile turn right opposite the entrance to Blakewell Fisheries. After ¼ mile turn left signed North Hill and follow the mile long drive. Please take it slowly over the speed bumps. There are three strategically placed grass passing places on the right in the unlikely event that you meet any traffic.
Option 2
As you approach Barnstaple at the roundabout turn left signposted Bideford (A39) and Bude A361. At the Bishops Taunton Junction Roundabout go straight on. At Lake Roundabout turn right to Barnstaple and Ilfracombe A361. At Sticklepath Junction go straight on over the new bridge signposted Ilfracombe A361. Get in right hand lane as you approach lights and at second set turn right signposted Lynton A39 and Town Centre. At next lights filter and turn left signposted Lynton & Ilfracombe. At next lights opposite BP garage turn left signposted Lynton and Ilfracombe and Hospital.
Proceed until you see the hospital on your right and go straight through the lights. At this point I would recommend you switch off the SatNav as it will not take you to North Hill despite you having entered the right postcode.

What a lovely place. It is the cleanest self catering accomodation I have stayed in. I didn't need my dettol cloths at all. The owners were so accomodating before the holiday and fitted our last minute changes in for us, the day before! Great service. I won't be telling people about the place though, I want it kept a secret! |

Stayed at North Hill Cottages for 2 nights with my friends recently and absolutely loved the place. You drive into country, follow this little path and there it is. Peaceful, quiet North Hill. Run by very friendly and helpful people. Great value. Lovely Pool facilities. Sauna and Jacuzi is amazing. Go go for a walk around the estate, drive to lovely beach Woolacambe only 20 min away, have lovely breakfast looking over the green fields, sip your wine in front of chimney.. What else can you ask for!! Can definetely recommend and will be back soon! |

Had a lovely weekend with three girlfriends and a baby, the cottage is perfectly equipped with amazing views. The weather was scorching but the bedrooms were nice and cool for a comfortable sleep. Enjoyed an early morning swim on Saturday morning and had the pool to ourselves. In very close proximity to Barnstaple for a potter round the shops and Woolacombe beach for sea, sand and sun. Highly recommend! |
