The West Country / Devon region

The west country is predominately an agricultural area. Lots of green fields full of cows and sheep or crops of golden corn. Devon is one of the largest counties in England, with two coast lines, the South Devon coast which is part of the English Channel and the North Devon coast which is part of the Bristol Channel.
Exeter City has the largest urban population in Devon. Most of Devon is cover in small sleepy towns and villages, were life runs at a gentler pace. Were holiday makers come to relax and unwind from todays busy life style. But there is plenty to do and see while your here, whether you are 6 or 60, from cream teas to surfing. Devon has a lot to offer.
The Barnstaple / Challacombe area
The towns of Lynton & Lynmouth closeby offer a wide selection of small shops, pubs, tearooms and restaurants. There is also the water powered Cliff Railway to ride on with its engineering history. And there's all the stories of the terrible Lynmouth Flood in August 1952, when the town was devastated and many lost their lives.
A short distance from Lynmouth is the village of Malmsmead, the capital of Lorna Doone country. Were the classic love story was written by R.D.Blackmoor.
