The West Country region

Barnstaple

Barnstaple is the commercial centre of the region, combining sophisticated shopping with the bustling atmosphere of markets and speciality shops. The modern Green Lanes Shopping Centre compliments the traditional Pannier and Craft Markets held since 1855 in the Pannier Market Hall.

This attractive market town is the oldest and largest town in North Devon, nestling in the Taw valley on the other side of the estuary which the Saxons first settled in Barnstaple (Barum) over 1000 years ago.

The Long Bridge, crossing the tidal River Taw was thought to have been built in the 12th and 13th centuries and in Litchdon Street are located the Penrose Almshouses built in the early 17th century.

"Absolutely Amazing!!!"

Best holiday we have had, so homely and chilled. Beautiful cottage, a lot bigger than expected. The whole family enjoyed it. Location is perfect, nice an private but close to local amenities and places to go. Plenty to do on the farm, pool, games, room little play ground and we loved going to feed the goats and rabbits. Could not fault one thing on this holiday, absolutely fantastic. Thank you Sue for making my families holiday fabulous! See you next year xx

"Top class cottage in great location"

The cottage was immaculate and well equipped. Owners are resident on site and very helpful. Bus route at end of lane with direct connections to Westward Ho one way and Ilfracombe the other. Close to Barnstaple but very quiet countryside location. Swimming pool, sauna and fitness on site make this a true 5 star holiday let.

"Great stay"

Great week away even though the weather wasn't brilliant. Plenty for the kids to do at the farm and the swimming pool was a particular hit. Good for local beaches and other facilities.

"Simply Perfect - Could Not Have Been Better, A True Devonshire Gem Of A Place"

My wife, myself and our two very young children were fortunate enough to discover Combrew Farm whilst searching through a holiday lettings site. Combrew shone out from the available cottages/accomodation. I found booking very easy, and the price was very competitive indeed. I had some questions relating to the property which were answered in full, promptly by the very helpful owners.
The location is perfect, just a short drive from Barnstaple centre. Although when we were sat outside the cottage, it really did feel like we were in the beautiful countryside.
Close by are all the local ameneties you may require, store, pubs, restaurants etc.

Our cottage was fully equipped with not just all the holiday essentials, but everything you can think of to make you feel at home. It was of course perfectly clean, decor is of a very high standard as is all the furnishings. We particularly loved the indoor heated swimming pool/spa wich again was clean and just perfect, not to mention 10 seconds walk from our cottage. Our chiildren loved Combrew Farm, the outside adventure play area and neighbouring goat, rabbit and chicken pens were regularly visited!
John & Sue made us feel very welcome, not only by the biscuits and farm fresh eggs that awaited us, but by the warm and friendly attitude.

I have to say, we wouldn't hesitate in coming back to Combrew, There really is absolutely nothing bad to say about the farm or the cottage we had. I was lucky enough to be shown around other holiday lets on the farm and I can say all properties are very obviously the pride and joy of John & Sue.

We honestly couldn't believe our luck!

"We had the best time, our children loved it."

We found the farm on a website called Owners Direct. We looked on their website at the cottages & shared facilities & knew it was the place for us. The beautiful cottages & surroundings were picture perfect & the brouchure we recieved reflected them well. Our young children love to swim so the pool was a definate highlight for them & us. We really enjoyed our stay & were made to feel very welcome, have already recommended the stay to others & would return ourselves. They have alot to offer & fair prices too. The accomadation is well situated near to local shops & attractions. The beaches are within distance too.

"Fabulous cottage, great on-site activities and excellent location"

This family run farm is very welcoming, the cottages are like home from home with very comfy beds. The on-site facilities kept our teenagers occupied whilst we recovered from our daily activities at the nearby beaches and tarka trail. The bikes are good value for money and the fresh eggs and home made jam are delicious. We were so impressed we re-booked for next year before we had even left.

"A great find, can't wait to return"

Trampolines, games room, swimming pool, badminton court, were all enough to sustain the interests of our 6, 9 and 15 year old. We had to drag them away in order to visit the fantastic local beaches. Exceptionally friendly hosts too.

"Warm,Cosy cottage with wonderful spa pool"

Barn Owl Cottage has everything you would need for a winter break. We visited with our daughter, son in law and two year old grandaughter. The configuration of the rooms afforded us all a good degree of privacy but with a spacious sitting room and kitchen ideally equipped for two families.

We used the spa pool and sauna every evening. It is kept wonderfully heated so was just right for our grandaughter to enjoy. Just what you want after a cold day sightseeing.

A highlight of the holiday for us was that we were able to hire lovely trail bikes at a very reasonable price from the owners and cycled along the estuary to Braunton and back.
The Tarka trail is only a very short distance from Combrew Farm and you can cycle safely for many miles.

We have stayed in the cottages at Combrew Farm at least half a dozen times and would thoroughly recommend them.

"Well equipped and brilliant"

Really great place, all the little extras and the friendly family really make the difference. We loved cycling on the Tarka trail and though that the new addition of the bike rental was really helpful and the bikes were well maintained.

There were plenty of different things to do and see and all of the facilities were used and appreciated. We travelled as part of a large group, and the owners made the effort to accommodate all of our needs including a large spacious table and all of the tableware to match.

All in all a brilliant stay and we look forward to going back next year.
