The West Country region

With a very mild climate all year round North Devon is a wonderful location at any time of year

Barnstaple

Barnstaple is the commercial centre of the region, combining sophisticated shopping with the bustling atmosphere of markets and speciality shops. The modern Green Lanes Shopping Centre compliments the traditional Pannier and Craft Markets held since 1855 in the Pannier Market Hall.

This attractive market town is the oldest and largest town in North Devon, nestling in the Taw valley on the other side of the estuary which the Saxons first settled in Barnstaple (Barum) over 1000 years ago.

The Long Bridge, crossing the tidal River Taw was thought to have been built in the 12th and 13th centuries and in Litchdon Street are located the Penrose Almshouses built in the early 17th century.

"Fantastic Cottage in a great location"

This is our third visit to Tuckers retreat and our fourth to Combrew Farm. As always excellent accomodation and facilities in a brilliant setting. Combrew has easy access to many attractions. The added benefit of cycle hire on site was a real bonus. Looking forward to returning to Combrew in the future.

"Go and stay at Combrew Farm Cottages"

Lovely cottage and very friendly and helpful owner.
Lots of facilities; pool, games room, outside play area. Our children didn't use them as much as we thought they would because we had a week of fantastic weather and we were out all day. Had it been raining the facilities would have really helped to keep the children entertained.
Although all the cottages were full, we rarely met anyone else and it was lovely and peaceful.
The location was great as it was only a short ride to get on to the Tarka trail. We went towards Bideford one day and Braunton on another. There is lots to do in this area and we never ran out of things to do.

"Fantastic *****"

What a great find! We had a fabulous long weekend with our dog and can truly say it was one of the best holidays we have had. The cottage is very well equipped and is a true 'home from home', the decoration is superb and the facilities on site are great. The pool is just the thing to unwind after a long day walking on the beaches. Thank you for a fantastic stay and we can't wait to book again!

"A fabulous cottage with everything the family needs for a perfect holiday"

From the booking through to the actual holiday Combrew Cottages supplied an excellent service and quality cottage which ensured the whole family had a great holiday.
The cottage had everything we needed and we were made to feel very welcome by the Tucker family.
The weather was stunning in North Devon but the extra facilities would have ensured we enjoyed the holiday whatever the weather.

"Ideal for families"

We stayed in Tuckers Retreat for a week with our 20 month old toddler. The cottage and grounds were beautiful. The facilities on site are perfect for young families: friendly animals, kids' playground, heated pool and lots of open space to run around in. The location is perfect for a touring base for North Devon with a choice of lovely beaches and towns just a short drive away. Owners friendly and welcoming but not intrusive. Lovely holiday! Would definitely stay here again!

"Another fabulous week in relaxing surroundings"

This is our third visit to Combrew Farm and Tuckers Retreat. The cottage is lovely, a real home from home, with everything you could possibly need and the general facilities on offer are brilliant. There is also Wi-Fi access, crucial for a family with a teenager who Tweets constantly! Sue, John and John Ross are so welcoming, it's like coming to stay with friends and that's what makes it so special. The weather was lovely this time so that was a bonus and it's amazing how different things look when the sun is shining; I don't think we noticed before how nice Instow beach was, as last time we drove through it was pouring with rain. We absolutely love Combrew Farm and now we have found it would not really think about going elsewhere; 2014 is already booked!
