About this location
The Devon region
This part of North Devon has a feeling of being off the beaten track and somewhere you can really get away from it all. That said, the property is in easy reach of fabulous beaches, exhilarating cliff walks and the romance and mystery of Exmoor. Barnstaple, with it's castle mound and historical importance, Bideford, the White town so called because of the white-painted houses on the hill seen from across the Torridge estuary, and Ilfracombe, seaside home of Damien Hirst's Verity, are all interesting and all different.
The area is good for cycling with numerous marked routes as well as the popular Tarka Trail along the old railway line. Bicycles are available for hire in nearby Barnstaple or for the more hardy and adventurous there are guided routes across remoter parts of Exmoor.
There are several National Trust properties within a 50 mile radius but Arlington Court is on the doorstep with its' Victorian gardens, large parkland and wooded hillsides to hike or stroll in and the Georgian manor house to explore.
The immediate area around the property is farmland with adjacent access to a bridleway for walks straight from the garden gate. There is a small shop within walking distance and the nearby village of Combe Martin has a number of cafes, pubs and restaurants.
