The Northern England / Yorkshire / Northumberland region
Northumbria is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian’s Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife. Covering 400 square miles, the Northumberland National Park is the least populated of England’s National Parks, much to the benefit of those visitors seeking peace and solitude. Thousands of paths and tracks weave their way through beautiful countryside, providing exhilarating fresh air and wide-open spaces for walkers and cyclists alike. Stay a while, roam the countryside but don’t forget to explore further, because the area known as Northumbria offers much more than just the National Park. Northumbria encompasses County Durham, the Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear, as well as covering the North Pennines ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, the City of Durham and the Heritage Coastline, boasting a selection of protected golden beaches and tiny fishing villages. Northumberland’s Heritage Coast has mile upon mile of sparkling beaches, rocky coves and picturesque fishing villages. Sweeping from Berwick-upon-Tweed in the north, to Druridge Bay in the south, popular destinations along the coastline include the horseshoe-shaped sandy beach and dunes at Beadnell Bay, the bustling village of Seahouses, with boat trips from the picturesque harbour, and the kipper smokery and coastal path at Craster. Adding to the area’s splendour is a chain of magnificent castles: Alnwick, home to the powerful Percy family and the setting for some of the Harry Potter films; spectacular, medieval Bamburgh, standing high on its rocky outcrop; the brooding ruins of Dunstanburgh and pretty Warkworth.
Barnard Castle / Middleton in Teesdale area
The pretty Pennine village of Middleton-In-Teesdale lies in the heart of Teesdale, perched on the riverbank in the beautiful Tees Valley. Situated in an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', this is a well-served little settlement and offers a good range of shops, pubs and places to eat. For more specialist amenities, the market town of Barnard Castle is within easy driving distance and provides everything a visitor could possibly need. The surrounding countryside is full of excellent walking opportunities through high, open moorland and pretty wooded valleys. Nearby are the waterfalls of High Force and Cauldron Snout, which are often considered to be amongst the most spectacular sights in the district.

Guestbook for 909
Good property, well presented and stocked. Fabulous location. Mrs Waddington, York, North Yorkshire February 2009 ' ,Lovely walking country; like the Lakes but much quieter. The cottage is lovely and secluded but still very close to centre of the village. Mrs Lennard, North Shields, Tyne and Wear December 2008 ' ,This is a wonderful spot in Teesdale. The hosts could not furnish a more comfortable spot for the pound. Easy access to the Dales where many walks begin. The owners supplied us with a wonderful 'Welcome Pack' - I would highly recommend this property to my friends. Mrs Holleman, Harrogate, North Yorkshire September 2008 ' , The cottage was perfectly situated for our love of walking in the countryside. There are many walks that start and finish at the village. The cottage contained many maps and information about where to go and what to do. The people in Middleton are very friendly and you can buy practically anything in the village shops.
