On the edge of the historical village of Bowes, and arranged all on the ground floor, Honeypot Cottage provides an ideal retreat to relax after exploring this rural setting, situated near the boundary of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A spur on the Pennine Way passes close by, bird watchers and lovers of the countryside will also delight in this location. Across the field beside the cottage is a large old stone house, formerly a school, where Charles Dickens visited in February 1838 to do research, resulting in the publication of 'Nicholas Nickleby'. Raby Castle, Bowes Museum and the ancient market town of Barnard Castle are all within a short drive. Visit Richmond, High Force waterfall and beautiful gardens at Egglestone Hall. The Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District are also within driving distance. Fishing is available on the River Tees. This cottage is located opposite the owners' farmhouse in open countryside. Shop and restaurant 4 miles.
