Unicorn cottage is a delightful 18th century stone holiday cottage located in the historic village of Bowes, Barnard Castle, in the northern Dales - an ideal setting for walking, cycling and bird watching.

Nestling in quiet countryside on the Pennine Way, and with easy access to the Yorkshire Dales, this cosy holiday cottage is also conveniently placed for visiting the East Coast, the Lake District and the Durham area.

Unicorn Cottage offers well equipped and comfortable self-catering accommodation: One twin bedroom with en-suite (shower cubicle, bidet, washbasin and WC). Fitted kitchen. Sitting room with sofa bed, electric fire and dining table. Double glazing throughout. Heating is from storage heaters in all rooms. Focal electric fire in sitting room. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, colour TV/DVD with Freeview, additional video player in bedroom. All fuel, power, bed linen and towels included in rent. Off road parking for one car. Bench seating by front door. This pet friendly holiday cottage welcomes well behaved dogs providing they stay downstairs. Sorry, no smoking!

The village of Bowes is situated in unspoilt countryside and has a long history dating back to the Romans. Its most famous landmark is Bowes Castle. Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, was patron of Bowes Museum for more than 40 years, until her death in 2002. Her own family, the Bowes-Lyons, had strong historical links with the area. Bowes also has a significant connection with Charles Dickens as the village is believed to have been the inspiration for Nicholas Nickleby.

A few minutes away is the lovely market town of Barnard Castle, with medieval ruins towering over the river. Nearby are the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, beautiful Swaledale, the Yorkshire Dales, the River Tees and the magnificent waterfalls at High Force. The east coast of Yorkshire, the North York moors and the Cumbrian Lakes are within easy reach.

It is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is an idyllic setting for a holiday. The Pennine Way passes through the Northern Dales and alongside Bowes.

This breath-taking countryside is bordered to the south by the delightful Yorkshire Dales, to the west by the Lake District and to the east by the dramatic east coastline and the historic Durham area. Further north is the Kielder Forest Park and the Northumberland National Park.

Attractions in the Northern Dales include spectacular waterfalls, awe-inspiring castles, beautiful gardens, picturesque market towns and some of the finest walking country in the region.

Set in a 250 acre deer park with beautiful walled gardens, Raby is one of the finest medieval castles in England. Nearby are the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, Hamsterely Forest, beautiful Swaledale, the Yorkshire Dales and the River Tees. The east coast of Yorkshire, the North York moors and the Cumbrian Lakes are within easy reach.
