About the home

The holiday cottages are situated in Baldersdale (made famous as the former home of Hannah Hauxwell), two miles from the village of Cotherstone, which has two excellent pubs and a village shop/post office.

Holiday guests can enjoy nature walks around the estate, fishing on the estate and in nearby reservoirs, free-range eggs from the resident hens and seasonal food from the vegetable garden and orchard.

This cottage is ideal if a member of your party has limited mobility. All areas are wheelchair accessible. The entrance hallway leads to the bathroom, a twin bedroom, and a good-size kitchen/dining room. A ramp leads to the sitting room from which there is level floor to a king-size bedroom large enough for an extra bed.

Coming From the South on the A1

If using M1, carry on when it joins the A1. Turn off at Scotch Corner onto the A66. Carry on for about 10 miles then turn right onto the B6277, signposted to Barnard Castle. Stay on this road past Barnard Castle, through Lartington to Cotherstone (4 miles from BC).

Coming From the M6

From the North, turn off at J40 onto the A66.

From the South, exit at J38 and follow signs to Brough (A685). About 4.5 miles after Kirkby Stephen, turn right onto the A66 East.

Where the A66 splits, bear left onto the A67. Immediately after the junction, there is a small turn-off to the left, signposted to Cotherstone. This is a very small, isolated moor road, which is great to drive, but should probably be avoided in bad weather. If you take it, turn left when you reach Cotherstone, then see above. If you prefer wider, straighter roads, carry on on the A67 to Barnard Castle. When you reach the T-junction below the Castle, turn left on to the B6277. Carry on for 4 miles through Lartington to Cotherstone.

Coming from the North on the A1

Travelling south on the A1(M), leave the motorway at junction 61 taking signs for Bishop Auckland on the A688. Continue on the A688 for 25 miles to Barnard Castle. At Barnard Castle pass through the town centre taking signs following the A67 down to the bridge over the River Tees. Over the bridge, turn right onto the B6277. Carry on for 4 miles through Lartington to Cotherstone.

East Briscoe Farm lies 2 miles outside the Teesdale village of Cotherstone in a beautiful, rural, south facing position. Cotherstone is a delightful village situated where the River Balder joins the River Tees 4 miles from Barnard Castle. It is a thriving village with a general store and two pubs, both serving real ales and good food.

Getting Here

For most approaches the A66 running East West from Scotch Corner to Penrith is the key road. East Briscoe is approximately half way between Barnard Castle and Middleton-in-Teesdale, off the B6277

Directions from Cotherstone

Assuming heading North through the village: After passing the second pub (the Fox & Hounds), turn left on the road signed to East Briscoe. Continue up this road for 2 miles (careful round those corners!) You can see the cottages across to the right before you turn off for them - immediately after a hump back bridge and before a telephone box there is a sign right to the cottages. Turn right and proceed 350 yards along the track to the cottages.
